Ok my son is DodMERB qualified, passed CFA and has a nomination from Marine Corp JROTC. He is in the top 15% of class 50 out of 320 and has a 3.8GPA and extensive involvement in Marine Corp JROTC. I have searched and searched for any kind of stats on appointments when nomination source is ROTC. Any knowledge concerning nomination being ROTC and not MOC??

Navy Seal Mom, my DS is in the same boat. He was a little late to the dance applying to USNA even though his NJROTC instructor encouraged him to apply several months ago. Relying solely on an ROTC or NJROTC nom. is far from ideal since there is only one path to an appointment, from all my searches I have yet to come across anyone who is currently enrolled that entered that way. I would suggest you do a search of NJROTC on the USNA page and also the nomination page, there is some information there. If I could sum up what I've learned, NJROTC and ROTC (first year college students who would like to transfer) compete in a pool that is open for approximately 20 spots. The class portrait of 2015 shows that there were 153 appointed who had NJROTC or ROTC noms, it does not say however who entered with just an NJROTC or ROTC nom. Our MOC declined nominating our son since he already had a nomination, he applied to USNA after our Senators deadline, so all he has is the NJROTC nom. and he has applied for the vice presidential as well. Hope that helps.

We do have similar situations. When I looked at the class of 2015 portrait the number of ROTC nominations percentage was very close to the number in the class who had JROTC on their resume. I found this very interesting.

That's not surprising. They should be equal. As I look at the portrait of 2015 there are around 160 NJROTC/ROTC noms, that equals about 13% of the class. The unanswered question is how many entered with just the NJROTC/MCROTC/ROTC nom. For example, there's a girl in my son's batallion that just received her appointment, but she had three noms, NJROTC, Congressional and Senatorial. I'm pretty sure the academy used the Congressional because it was our congressman that called to notify her of her appointment. I would think that if you were one of the 13% with ROTC on your resume, you'd also have your instructor/commander nominate you as well, those numbers should be equal. I'm curious how many appointees from class of 2015 were triple q'ed with just the ROTC nom. Any wisdom out there from anyone else?

If any of the high and dry candidates get on the stick, they should be able to get their application for the Vice President's nomination in the mail. It may seem far fetched, but I have had candidates get offers via this route. It beats not trying. Best wishes.

It can be done online at the USNA website and is due NLT Jan 31, so hurry. Letters of Recommendation are not necessary.

Admissions will look awry at candidates who, through no fault of their on, who deserved, but did not receive, nominations, and did not apply for the VP.
