Chances of getting into NAPS instead of Service Academy?

Besides those that are enlisted, who else goes to NAPS? What would a typical NAPS in lieu of USNA candidate look like? (athletic recruit? )

See the sample class profile below, look at typical NAPS intake and notes on background.

NAPS has prior enlisted, recruited athletes, and some who don’t fall in either category. USNA can send anyone they wish to NAPS, but generally it’s to polish/prep them academically and ensure they have a foundation for success in the next USNA class.

BOOST is back. The BOOST students live with and do the same things as NAPSTERS.
Interesting I can’t find info on it. Haven’t been retired for that long and the alumni aren’t aware either.

BOOST stood for Broadened Opportunity for Officer Selection and Training. It was essentially academic only prep school for enlisted and minorities with graduates being awarded NROTC scholarships. If I recall the overall college graduation and retention rate wasn’t stellar. A small number each year could apply to USNA. Originally in San Diego and then moved to Rhode Island in the mid 90s. Program was shuttered in 2009 I guess until very recently.

Anyway - if it’s back that’s probably a good thing now in the era where many things are DEI focused as that was the intended purpose of the program.
