Chances of USAFA Admissions

Apply to all nomination sources (including JROTC if applicable) Congressman and Senator will probably have their own process so get in touch with their offices. VP is an online app. When you are an official candidate and the portal is open to you it will give you the specific detailed instructions for taking the CFA. It is very clear on who can give it. Meanwhile keep practicing it in sequence under test timing conditions. Your ALO (Academy Liaison Officer) will interview you as part of your application. Really you should go to the USAFA website (www.academyadmissions.com) and find the checklist for juniors (also available in their smartphone app) and work off of that. That will be way more definitive.

And when you get more than 10 posts on this forum, you can private message (PM) me. Feel free to do so.

Wow, my parents said that 1910 would most certainly be competitive for USAFA or USNA but I KNEW it sounded funny! These academies are very prestigious after all... I hope I do well on my tests is all I can say for now, I suppose.

I've already emailed my deputy district director, for a packet to the instructions in obtaining a nomination from my congressman, and he did email me back, so hopefully getting an early start will help me. Do I need one from both my congressman, senator, and the vice president?

Also, I spoke to my counselor. She said that the CFA is usually administered by a RECRUITER, not my P.E teacher (she said that sounded suspicious). Any clarification? She also gave me a note to speak to the liason officer. What are the things I would need to talk about with him?
Sorry to tell you but it clearly looks as though you need to spend more time on the Academy Admissions sites. It spells out exactly how the CFA is administered (there are several that can administer it PE teacher is one)and more. Instead of taking people's word for it, take the initiative and educate you self from the source.
With all due respect, you may not end up with 100% correct information taking advice from everyone (this forum, school councelor or civilian world)

GPA 3.83 unweighted

ACT 33 Composite

Top 20% of class

Marching Band Section Leader/Leadership Team

MS All-State Lions Band

U.S. Army All-American Marching Band (Hardest high school eligible band in the nation)

JROTC Platoon Leader Second Lieutenant

I feel as though this isn't good enough for the academy is this true?

MSG5841 Your grades and test scores look great. Even better if your ACT English and Math are 34+ instead of Reading and Science being 34s. Looks like if you have additional top or senior leadership track record outside JROTC and couple of team sports at the Varsity level your personal qualities will be stronger. Your leadership and athletic participation appear to be thin or non existent aside from JROTC.

Of course you do need strong LOR, Persuasive personal statement, CFA, Pass DODMERB, and Noms to complete the package. Not concerned about your Noms since you should have multiple with your grades and JROTC.

And pray hard! Harder if coming from the most competitive district.

No one has any idea of your chances nor anyone else's. Folks please stop asking this silly question!:bang::bang::bang::bang::bang::bang::blowup:

@parent
Just wanted to see what my weakest areas were. Don't remember asking for a chance.
Anyway, have a good day.
Hey MSG5841, what grade are you in ? If you can next year , do as many sports as you can ! Also if your a junior and it’s not too late , see about going to Boys State .....

I'm a very anxious junior in high school right now, and can't wait to get to college. My top two places I would love to go to are the Air Force Academy, and perhaps the Naval Academy (Air Force being my top). Like I said, I'm a girl who is junior in high school, and here are some of my stats currently:

Race: White
Unweighted GPA: 3.7
Weighted GPA: 4.7
Rank: 27/605 (Top 4%)
SAT: 1910 (I'm retaking this in June, it's pretty bad.)
ACT: I'm also taking the ACT in June. What should the aim score be?
So far, I've taken 4 years of math: PAP Geometry, PAP Algebra-2, PAP Pre-Calculus, and AP Statistics.
I've taken 4 years of science: PAP Biology, AP Biology, PAP Chemistry, AP Physics
And yes, 3 years of English, just PAP and AP.
History is simply PAP World Geography, AP World History, and AP United States History

I've taken 3 years of PAP Latin so far, and I'm going to take AP Latin next year. Oh, I'll just include my language skills here (if they matter?): English and Korean (both very fluent). French (not as fluent as Korean and English), Latin doesn't count, obviously.
I've taken 3 years of Varsity Orchestra, and going to senior year too of course!

I'm a cellist! And I've made the All-Region orchestra every year, and have been the first chair cellist and soloist for two years. I have made a what they call, "superior rating" in all of the solo competitions, and play at a church every Sunday. I'm also in a teen council for a symphony orchestra. I've done Piano for 10 years.

I'm in NEHS (National English HS), and NHS (Recently accepted but everyone's in this), and have been president of the Latin Club (Junior Classical League) for 3 years and will be next year. I also tutor people at school, specifically in Physics and Chemistry and Latin. I also give some people cello lessons/help every week.

My biggest thing though, has got to be my Taekwondo. I am a 4th degree black belt and a certified master and instructor. I have been doing Taekwondo for 11 years. I am a 4 time (4 year) National champion, and 5 year State champion, and a certified judge/coach/referee. I'm not going into details with the wins and such, but I do teach at my studio, and am the leader of the demonstration team. I also teach refugees at a church, how to defend themselves and the sort. I have also received the Academic Achievement Award for 3 years from the State Taekwondo Association.

I founded a non-profit organization that has donated over 2000 books to local libraries and to the community, and this year, we will be donating coats and clothes!

I did political science research at the local university, and attended a debate camp there as well.

That's it so far, and from what I see it seems so little from everyone else's resumes. Could I get any thoughts of my chances of admission? I would really, really appreciate any feedback. Thank you.

Very impressive ! You should look at attending Girls State, it’s an American legion program recommended by ALO’s . It will boost your leadership points ! I believe they are taking applications now depending on what state you are in , it’s only open to high school juniors and it’s a summer program . Look it up online...:

@FireflyMom
I am a very musically talented Trombonist and I have many honor bands, and individual awards. But no awards pertain to sports is this a deal breaker?
Also, I am trying to get into NHS. I feel this will hurt my application tremendously. Thanks!

One question: what is the PAP designation? I get AP Bio, AP History.... but what is PAP? Pre?

Missing a NHS will not hurt your application. Having it with nothing else would look a little iffy.

Pre AP...

What do they call it in middle school? Pre-Pre-AP?

Just smarting off. The lingo of the education-industrial-complex never ceases to amaze me.

I just want to make sure that you all know that you’re quoting and questioning posts from 2 years ago. The OP hasn’t been on this site since May 2016.
