I have recently found out that I just might have been granted an NROTC scholarship by the university I applied to. They told me I was placed in their unit. My question though is, can I change my major? I've done some online research, and there are a few exceptions:
    1) For when an applicant wishes to pursue a more technical major (moving up)
    2) When an applicant has a change of interest in their filed ex. electrical to mechanical engineering (moving laterally)

When I applied back in May, I honestly wasn't too sure about what I wanted to do, but I applied for the Nurse Corps and thus applied to my school to major in nursing. I don't foresee any issue about changing my major with the university, but would NETC be able to change my major to a tier 1 or 2 major at this point?

Reason for this is that I have recently become fascinated by science; I'd like to pursue a degree in physics or mechanical engineering (both offered at my university). Instead of joining the Nurse Corps, I would perhaps pursue SWO to comply with a more technical major instead.

Is this scenario feasible? and if so, who should I contact about it?

The NROTC application (unlike the other ROTC programs) gives you three different choices of applications:
"Program - You must select Navy, Marine or Nurse Corps Program. You may only select one program. You may change the option selected prior to submitting your application".

The instructions clearly state that you can select only one program and that you may change the option BEFORE submitting your application. My opinion is that you could not choose the Marine Corps program, wait until you're selected and then change to the Navy program. I believe you are competing for NROTC scholarships with the other applicants within your program. I do not think it is just a matter of changing or moving "laterally" within the same tier.

Good luck and be sure to let us know how this works out for you.

I have just now checked my online status and it now says
    "Congratulations!
You have been selected for a 4-yr Nurse Option scholarship.
You are assigned to the NROTC Unit at Norwich University."

Now that I have been selected, do I simply send an email to NETC to request the program change?

That's great, congratulations! Have you been accepted to Norwich in the BSN program? If yes, you may want to send request change to NETC and to Norwich as well. Good job!
