Is it difficult to change your major from a Tier one to a Tier two Engineering program ( Mechanical to Bioengineering) either prior to entry into college or after you freshman year?

Yes it is. That's not to say it can't be done. Moving within Tier 1 majors is easier.

My son just finished his 4/c year. Started out as a Mech-E (Tier1) and ended the year as Material Science and Engineering (Tier2). He did not switch until near the end of second semester. His suggestion is to wait until you get in and have a semester under your belt. There's no rush to switch and it's easier to do when your CO knows you. His switch was very easy.

Thank you, thats helpful. I'm interested in both majors. I heard that freshman classes are standard engineering classes, which gives you time to decide.
