Hey Guys!
I just checked the AFROTC portal, my scholarship decision has already been posted.
4 year Type 7 for a non tech major! So Stoked!

My DS just got his AF letter today. He won't be home from practice for another 3 hours so we won't know anything until then....

Congratulations on your scholarship Tkaler. That is awesome!

That's interesting, that snail mail showed up on the same day as the portal opened...you must live close to Maxwell!

Congrats! Enjoy the moment, and next month start training for the PFT you will take in the fall.

Next State up the road.

Just logged into the Portal. DS received a 4-year type 7. Accepted to VA Tech and waiting to hear from UVA. Older brother (in the Corp of Cadets at VA Tech) has a 3-year AD AROTC scholarship that got "accelerated" this semester. Couldn't be more proud.

I just checked for my daughter and her status is the same as its been everyday since the last board. It states she was not selected however she will be seen by the next board. If those who got scholarships don't mind sharing your credentials.

DS just checked the portal and he received a 4 year Type 7 scholarship. Congrats to all the recipients and good luck to all that might have been reboarded. He was reboarded from December and it's no fun waiting.

I have read the different AF ROTC scholarship types but I am having a tough time putting my hands around what they really mean. Anyone have a good description of what they actually mean. A 4 year type 7 is good at any school but only UP to the instate rate, correct? While a type 2 is up to $18k at any school, correct?

Thanks in advance!

The easiest way to say it is if you intend to attend an OOS school or a private, and it is more than the cost of your IS college, that Type 7 4 yr will need to be converted to a Type 2 3 yr.

The big difference between a 2 and a 7 is recipients for type 2 can pay the difference if it is over 18K in tuition, 7 cannot. If the IS is 10K, that will be the bar they will use, read the wording carefully. UP TO 18K. It doesn't say 18K.

For example, if you want PSU and you live in NJ, the likelihood will be the 1st yr is on your dime.

You will have the scholarship in hand, but you will not be contracted, there will be no stipend, no book allowance, etc. You will have to be in AFROTC as a freshman.

VirginiaDad, make sure you contact UVa admissions and notify them that your son received the scholarship. We've done that for both NROTC and AFROTC scholarships that my son was awarded this year. The admissions department will be very quick in updating your son's admissions file. Every little bit of an edge helps when trying to get into UVa. Congratulations!

Wooohoooo!!! DS just opened his letter. Four Year, type 7!!!
We are thrilled! Now is it 3, year Army or 4, year AF? Just glad he has two great choices.

Thanks ratzl and tkaler for sharing! I'm hoping for board #3 for her. I wish they could somehow overlook her ACT. I feel the rest of her resume is strong. The commander who did the interview said it was the most well-rounded candidate he had ever interviewed. Oh well, good luck to all and we will be checking again March 15th for board #3 results.

T-Bone. Be sure you understand what a 4 year type 7 is per the discussion earlier in this thread. Also pay close attention to Pima's response. Depending on where your DS wants to attend school you could be looking at 3 year Army vs 3 year Air Force. Read the fine print (unless you already have of course).
