Do cadets choose which intramural activities they participate in, or is it assigned?

Can some intramural sports have limited spots?

I know that cadets can join various intramural sports. What I do not know is the time commitment and what is realistic at the academy. For example, do most join one sport per season, like a fall and spring sport, or take two at a time, with alternating days. And, what about a year round sport like triathlon (my DS's sport), will training for swim, bike, and run on the team realistically preclude other sports and activities?

I would love to hear from someone who has gone through this or knows the about the rigors of the triathlon team! Thanks in advance!

Intramurals are chosen in your squadron since we play squadron vs squadron. Usually upperclassmen get priority for what they want to play, but sometimes it's first come first serve. If a sport fills up, there's always overflow into other sports, so you'll get to play something. We play certain sports in the fall and certain in the spring (changes every semester). There are "seasons" which last a few weeks each semester, so we don't play multiple sports in a semester, just one sport during the one season each semester.
