I am having a hard time deciding on which program to attend. Does anyone have any input on MMI, NMMI, Northwestern PS, Valley Forge MA, or Wentforth MA? I just received the FF scholarship through the mail last Friday and was stoked when I received the news. After not receiving an appointment to the USAFA I was planning on attending ORU for a year and then doing ROTC the following year, but changed my mind when I received the FF. Any ideas on which program to attend? I need to send the FF back to the Academy through FedEx tomorrow, so I would love anyones opinions on this matter. Thanks.

My son just finished his c4 year at usafa. He received the Falcon Foundation offer two years ago and attended NWP. It was a great opportunity and I would highly recommend NWP. The school did a lot too help prepare him for the Academy and I think it was a big aid in helping him get through this year. After completing the NWP 1 semester program, he returned home and attended the local community college for a semester. If you have any questions about NWP let me know.

I would have to agree about NWP. I attended NWP this past year and it was a great semester! If you have any questions feel free to PM me.

I had room mates and friends who were FF peeps. In my experience talking to them, the hierarchy seemed to be NWP>Marion>NMMI>Valley Forge.

NWP

My son went to NWP. It has an amazing program. He starts at the Academy this June.

NWP is the way our son went....It worked for him as he is graduating next week. :thumb:

Nothing quite like waiting until the last minute......

All the programs work. They will all get you where you want to be provided you do your part.
The difference is in style, length of program, curriculum, culture, cost and location. There are pros and cons to each and I suggest that you talk to the SAP directors at each school.
If it's any help - NMMI and MMI get the majority of miltiary junior college preps - far fewer attend Wentworth and VF.
JMHO but the worst way to choose is to pick the same school as you BFF on the forum. Do your own homework, get on the phone and make phone calls to the SAP Directors. These people are all very nice, informative and will be more than happy to speak with you.

I'm an Army guy, but I just finished my Prep year at Valley Forge. This year, we had five Air Force guys on Foundation Scholarships and all five recieved appointments. The Valley Forge prepster program definitely helped me improve academically and physically for my application, and prepared me for a lot of the bs we will get as plebes because they have their own Plebe System. For the Air Force guys, they had the opportunity to do Air Force ROTC at another college while still prepping for the Academy. If you want more information, PM me and I will give you the contact info for one of my best friends who was a Falcon prepster

I'm a FF scholar who went to NWP this past semester. I'd recommend them without any reservation. NWP picks up a majority of the Falcons and for good reason. The program is fantastic, the instructors are great, and the Durbecks (who run the school) are wonderful. All of the Falcons from NWP '10 received appointments.

I would highly recommend Northwestern Prep. I went there last fall, and I improved tremendously in academics as well as physical fitness.
Last year out of the 100 Falcon Scholars, over half of them (fifty something) chose to go to NWP. It has a great reputation and the Durbecks are awesome people. Hope this helps!

The majority of the FF Scholars went to NWP last year and I suspect other years as well. Other considerations would be how close the other prep schools are to home, if it is important to you to have family and friends visit you. In our case NWP was closest to home and we saw our DS 2x during the semester. I can't saw enough good things about NWP

Thank you all for your input, and I have decided to go to Wentworth Military Academy. In complete honesty, I think all of the prep schools are good in their own way. If I do well and don't have any "Mess-ups", then I should be able to get into the USAFA the following year, regardless of where I go.

Augustus,

Good luck on your prep year. You will find that the Falcon Foundation has an amazing program, and the year of additional preparation will be of great benefit to you.

Your last two sentences of your last post, "In complete honesty, I think all of the prep schools are good in their own way. If I do well and don't have any "Mess-ups", then I should be able to get into the USAFA the following year, regardless of where I go." show great wisdom and reveal an ultimate "truth". It's not where you are, it's who you are!

All the schools in the Falcon Foundation program are good schools. If they weren't, they wouldn't be in the program. The biggest "variable" in the appointment "equation" is the candidate!

Not sure the reason of this, but last year there were only 87 FF Scholarships. I don't know if that's all that was offered or whether the remaining 13 were not accepted.
