Looking at the calendar, I notice that "Winter Break" is shown as December 21st. Is this the actual day that they can leave the Academy or is there a possibility of some type of military training, briefing, etc. being scheduled for that day? Just trying to figure out in advance when to fly the cadet home and when to return him.

They can usually leave after their last final exam. They can get the schedule from the professor.

Not so much from their professor's but from CAMIS. They should be able to look at their final exam schedule at this point and make whatever changes they can to possibly leave earlier or whatnot.

Not available yet. I'd give it a month.

Since 4*s are in all core classes, there is a good chance your cadet will have an exam in each of the five classes. In this case, the Dec 18th is probably the earliest he/she will be able to leave, maybe late on the 17th if there are four exams and they can ideally scheduled.

Best advice is to let your cadet purchase the ticket home when the schedule is known.

Bus to Denver Airport for Christmas

So, my C4C has told me that he will be able to leave at Noonish on 12/18. I have not seen anything regarding bus schedules for Christmas. Do we know with absolute certainly that the busses are running very frequently to Denver on the 18th and that there would be no issue with him getting a bus ride to Denver to make a 7:15 pm flight? I know that the link to the Thanksgiving bus info was put on the forum then removed but do you know where I could direct DS to find the Christmas bus schedule? I have found what I consider a very reasonable price on a flight and would like to advise him to go ahead and book it but since it is non-refundable we need to be absolutely certain that the bus will get him there for that flight.

Not dismissing your question or concern, but you son has 3 classes of students; >3000; who have been through this a few times before. It would be so easy for him to get the info by asking his class leaders, squadron leaders, etc... Out of 4000+ students, maybe 20 spend any time on this forum on a regular basis. Yet, the other 3980 tend to find the answers to their questions.

Again; please don't think I'm making light of your question or concern. But these types of questions are for matters "INSIDE THE WALLS". The best answers usually come from those few cadets on this forum that are/were inside those walls. And that's where the answer is going to probably come from. Why not just have your son ask the question(s) DIRECTLY. He's right there.

Your C4C should be able to get a ride with another cadet to the airport. If not, they can call Vandenberg Outdoor Recreation (ORC) for the schedule. Yes, the buses run on a schedule when the cadets are leaving. Your C4C should be able to find some time to contact them and secure a seat on the bus to DEN (yes, they do sell out). I do not have the phone number and they don't post the schedule for security reasons. Again, your cadet can make the travel arrangements to the airport.

It will be great to see your C4C at Christmas. Best wishes. :thumb:

Sorry, cross posted with CC.

My DD always finds a ride to and from Denver. There is always someone with a car coming or going. She gives them gas money, so just ask around. Next year she can have a car of her own.

Phone number for Outdoor Rec is 719-333-4602. Your cadet can purchase tickets in person or you can arrange over the phone with Visa or MC. Your cadet will still have to pick up the ticket before boarding the bus. They are open from 0800-1700 M,T,Th,F.
Though I provided the information, I do agree that most can find a ride with another cadet. We used the buses the first year as my cadet did not feel comfortable asking an upperclassman for a ride. Since then she has procured her own ride to and from the airport.
