I actually didn't apply to any service academies. I didn't like the idea of being contracted to the military in case i ever changed my mind. I felt like schools like vmi and the citadel would give me the same experince while having the freedom to make the choice to continue after i graduate.

thats an awesome career choice... VERY different....
Does he know what he would like to do in those services???

He's been talking about Tank Commander or Artillery, I'm trying to persuade him to at least think about it for the next few years and look into something that might transfer out into the Civilian world. He also mentions becoming a teacher after retirement but remember, this is a 17 year old kid, I'm sure he'll change his mind lol
