but of course hardly surprising for VaTech and TAMU as they are major FBS programs, it is uncommon for FCS players to get drafted unless they come from successful programs like Montana, North Dakota State or Georgia Southern (which is now FBS). The Citadel had 3 players drafted in the past decade, 5 since '87; several others made NFL teams as free agents and a couple more played in the CFL, impressive for a small time military school. Kind of shoots down the complaints of some of our alumni that 'we cant recruit good athletes'.

MAJOROFSTLO - Agree, I think it requires a unique coach though to recruit and retain talented players in the key sports of football and basketball. VMI has had success in basketball with a quality coach, and look at little Wofford of South Carolina - they have prospered in football recently, while maintaining a high quality academic reputation.

Always been impressed with Wofford. Wofford and VMI are similar in that they're the smallest Div. I schools in the NCAA with ~1600 students and both offer Bachelor/undergraduate degrees exclusively. To be an athlete at one of these two schools, the student (or cadet in VMI's case) must carry a full course-load and be a full-time student. In the spirit of accuracy (and not to diminish), this is not the case for athletes at the Citadel. Mariel Cooper, for example, had a one semester Citadel football career as a part-time Citadel night student--not sure I'd support if a grad but definitely helps with their recruiting... and kudos to Mariel for joining the Redskins!

an old and tiresome theme. Cooper was the only grad student on the team this past year who graduated from another college, in the past decade I believe we have had 5 on the football team and 5 on the basketball team, one of whom was Gay Elmore the son the son of Maryland/NBA star Len Elmore who graduated from Princeton in 3 years, 2 other grad student football players had graduated in 4 years from Clemson and Auburn which is a rare feat for an FBS athlete. Our All-American Defensive End Joe Crochet got his degree in 3 years and when his eligibility is up this fall will also have his MBA. In D1 football these days 5 year players are the rule, not the exception.
How is it that the VMI crowd has such an obsession with The Citadel? Oh sorry stealth, am I taunting again?

From now on, check your facts: citadel football had many civilian students living downtown and playing football this year, to include night students and 5th years. As for basketball, this year alone there were 2 starters who were civilian students on the team... Let's at least keep it accurate on the forums.
And congrats to those from the SMCs who have made it into the pros!

OK. Cease and desist gentlemen. Evidently neither of you learned anything from your recent bans. These can be easily re-instated.
