Citadel vs. North Georgia- need to make a decision

Hello Everyone,

I recently received a letter from Army ROTC, that I have received a 3-year scholarship to The Citadel or North Georgia. If I want the scholarship I have to decide by no later than May. 10th. Because I am a 4-year Varsity Track athlete, and live so far away, I have no time to make a visit to either schools. I am from Illinois, and am in the dark on both these schools. I have read many forums, and researched both school websites but I still can't decide which I would enjoy most. I am attracted to the structured disciplined, non party like school the Citadel has to offer, but I don't know that I'd enjoy an almost all male military school. NGCSU offers Army ROTC, which is the branch I'm interested in, but I don't feel it carries the same name and weight as The Citadel does from what I've read online. I plan to serve the country regardless of what school I attend. It is fusterating, because it is hard to pick a school that I will have to show up to in the fall, without a prior visit. I don't like the idea of taking a gamble between the two, and am unsure where I would be most happy. Any advice or insight from past alum, or anyone with knowledge on either school would be most appreciated.

Thanks for your time,

-Max

North Georgia or Citadel

Max

Congrats on your scholarship, thankyou for serving our nation. My oldest son will apply to North Georgia and Citadel end of this May as a Junior in high school. We have expereince with both schools, his 1st choice is North Georgia his second is Citadel. We made visits to North Georgia 5 times and had the opportunity to meet many of the staff. I am going to provide you with my personal email, send a reply back and I will provide my cell phone. Please call me and I will be glad to speak with you in regards to this matter. Both schools are the finest senior military colleges in this nation. North Georgia is special, and would be glad to provide you information that might help. My email is jamesconner@charter.net, I look foward to speaking with you soon.

choices

Citadel.

If you are planning a visit to Dahlonega stay in a bed in breakfast. The motels there are awful. Stay away from the Days Inn or the Super 8. You might try the Holiday Inn Express. It was built this century. Do it for your parents. They will enjoy Charleston. Beaches are nice. Visit the Yorktown.

I am not an alum, but I will be attending The Citadel this Fall and have visited both schools.

From your post, it seems like you have weighed the schools like this

The Citadel:better reputation, less chicks

NG: little less better reputation, more chicks

I assume you are a guy since you concluded with "Max."

If you are a guy and your worry is the lack of women to pick from. Don't worry, there are women in Charleston and at the neighboring colleges. If you are concerned with being surrounded by guys constantly, then I wouldn't go.

My point is this: pick the school that can produce the best academia for you. Not what the reputation says.

On a side note though, both schools are in beautiful locations. NG consistently has better stats for cadets at LDAC due to the focus on Army ROTC. Also, NG has adopted a less severe form of training than the Citadel. It seems to act more like a normal ROTC in the sense that "hazing" does not occur (as much). Statistically speaking, it seems to work for them. Moreover, At NG you get more time to yourself.

I picked The Citadel first because I dont know what ROTC I would like to do. Thus, I wanted all the options. Second, because I like the more regimented lifestyle. Third, the academics at The Citadel impressed me more (not saying NG is a bad school).
