Has anyone's Regional Commander mentioned Civil Prep as an opportunity? Not sure if that is mentioned to everyone who is waitlisted or a specific subset of candidates.

Regular Prep School is offered to selected applicants that are not fully qualified.

Civil Prep School is offered to selected "fully" qualified applicants that did not get in. Usually, you will have to pay 1/3 of the cost, as West Point will pick up 1/3 and the civil prep school will pick up 1/3.

Based on your conversation with your RC or you own ssessment, you have to let your RC know that you are interested in the prep option if you don't get in.

Generally speaking, the Assoc. of Graduates (AoG) at WP will make the offer of a civil prep scholarship. If you accept, the AoG will let you pick from the list of approved prep schools. For the AY 2010-2011 the AoG scholarship was $3,000 per year. Any other scholarships you are eligible for are also used. At NMMI we automatically add another $2,000 for AoG sponsored preps. Different schools have different programs. It pays to "shop around".

If I do not get an appointment (knock on wood), will I have to request this, or will they offer it to any 3Q candidate? I really wish that 3Q candidates could attend the Prep School, I find it disheartening that those who pushed hard in high school are being punished. :(

Straight from the RC, regarding civil prep: Don't call us, we'll call you.

As for your contention that you're "being punished"...get over it. West Point chooses the candidates they feel are best. No one is owed an appointment.
