Hey I was browsing the USNA site for the admission steps and found their official page regarding this information. I went through the steps and at step 3 titled "preliminary application" it says (if you scroll down a little):

Applications for the class of 2017
will open on April 1st 2012.

I'm assuming these applications are not the preliminary applications we filled out for NASS? I noticed that there is no step of the ten steps listed that talks about filling out an APPLICATION as opposed to a PRELIMINARY APPLICATION. Can anyone clear things up for me? What information/things do we need to complete this "application" that opens on the first of April?

Thanks.

Anyone who applied for Summer Seminar, the application is used as a preliminary app. You'll get a letter (I believe mine came in mid-May) telling you the username and password to start your application process. Trying to deal with the Class of 2016 admissions, they don't have too much thought for you guys yet, but you've got plenty of time.

So I should disregard the thing that opens April 1 since I already got into NASS and now I just wait until they send me a letter to start my actual application?

USNFilms, correct, it's waiting for you at this point.

Unless the Admissions process has changed and not informed the BGOs yet, the April 1st date coincides with the closing of the NASS application.

As previously mentioned, the NASS application serves as the preliminary candidate questionnaire (PCQ). If a candidate does not apply for NASS, the PCQ will be available on April 1st, in which they will have to fill this form out to determine if they will become an official candidate.

The application instructions for Class of 2017, will be promulgated in late May or early June, for those who are official candidates (i.e. receive a candidate number).

On a related subject...

It's not too early to begin thinking about what your applications packets (yes packets - you'll be preparing at least 5: 1@ NA, 2@ Senators, 1@ MOC, 1@ VP). Of particular importance is the evaluations of your 11 grade math and english reachers. While they have to wait until the NA sends them the log in information, you should be talking to them now so that they are ready and they know how important it is to you that they complete it ASAP. If you wait until May/June school may be out and getting them to complete it may be tough (some teachers do not access their email over the summer.)

Would recommend you get a copy of your HS transcript now and check for errors. If you find any, you'll have time to clear them up. As mentioned in many threads, talk with your recommendation sources and get their support now.

Full agree with above re teacher recommendations. Also note that two of the documents required (Candidate Activities Record and Candidate Academic Information) need to be filled out by your high school guidance counselor, who will receive a link to the docs like the teachers. DS's counselor was fully aware of this and confirmed she would check e-mail over summer, but then didn't complete until DS tracked her down when she came back to her office a few days before school startedl... Very frustrating to say the least so try to set this up before school ends and attempt to get home phone number of counselor in case he/she needs some nudging...
