Class of 18 Hopefuls!

I am from Dallas as well. Both parents went to the academy and my brother is there currently. I'm beyond pumped.

Today I got notified of my nomination, what are my chances of appointment? anyone know?
 
Hey, all! I am a 2018 hopeful, as well. My application is complete and I had my nom interview last Saturday. I have also applied to the other four SAs, but USAFA is my top choice. I am a little below standards physically, but I am academically above average. I will need a waiver for my eyes, though (visual acuity is 20/200 and 20/250). I hear that waiver is the toughest to get at USAFA. Thus, my 2nd choice is West Point, where I am told I won't need a waiver.

I am from Texas' district 23 and I live in the middle of nowhere (drove 400 miles to San Antonio for my nomination interview)

Haha. I have my name and more than enough information on here. Anybody who met me could easily recognize me from here! Lol. I don't mind. I don't say dumb stuff.....often ;0

Haha yeah, I don't have a whole lot on here, but it probably wouldn't be too hard to id me person. I try to stay out of trouble for the most part as well. We should be alright (;
 
Hi Simone from Omaha, Nebraska. I go to Marian-all girls catholic school (anyone else go to catholic school?) Went to summer seminar at naval and air force seminar. Absolutely loved both but Air force is my number one because I'd rather be in the air than at sea haha. Potential Cross Country athlete, love my country, love jesus, love adventure and challenge. Truly can not wait to meet some of you in just 6 months from now. It's weird to think that some of my future lifelong friends could be on this forum right now. I get so stoked just thinking about what the next four years hold in store for all of us. God bless

In AZ, DD got a USAFA and USNA nomination from Schweikert, a primary nom from McCain to USAFA, and alternate nom to USNA from McCain.

From Schweikert: I also know of 3 students with competitive noms to USAFA, 3 to USNA, 2 to USMA and 2 to USMM. All from the same school. Talk about competition!
 
Wow, that's crazy! At my school we only have 3 people going for an academy. One got a nomination to USNA from congressman salmon and then a principal from McCain. I managed to get an alternate from McCain to USMA and a competitive to USAFA. Not sure what the other person from my school got. There are 11 from the same school applying to an academy? I didn't know there was such a pull for military academies in that area. Especially to USMMA. May I ask though why your DD got a alternate to USNA when she was already given a primary to the USAFA and two others from her congressman? Especially with all the competition, it seems like they'd want to spread out the noms to all the eligible candidates. I know McCain said they won't give out noms to those with noms from their congressman, unless they want them for a primary. Flake was advised on who got a nom beforehand too, so that they could spread them out.

Hi everyone! I'm Jackie from NY and pretty new to this forum (in terms of talking or sharing info). I got a principal nomination from my district congresswoman but haven't gotten that 3Q letter. I was curious as to how others are preparing backup plans! Have any of you thought of prep school or expressed interest in it to your field force reps? :)
 
Yepp, I've already got a perfect backup plan! AROTC scholarship. Have you applied to the rotc scholarships as well? I'm sure with a principal that you'll get in, as long as your good medically. I'm the other way around, 3Q'd but no principal :/

Actually only 5 got nominations, but still, it's 10% of the graduating class. All of them got a nom to at least 2 SAs from their Congressman.

Also, DD got the 2 noms from her congressman before she went to McCain's committee. The primary nom carries more weight, though, so it makes sense that she got that (as you said). It could be that the Congressman didn't share the information.

Good question about why she got the alternate to USNA when McCain's committee gave her the primary to USAFA. McCain has an 8-10 person committee that interviews each candidate, so I suspect that they break into 3-4 groups and put the lists together independently of each other. That's just my suspicion, though. Of the 5 kids that interviewed with their Congressman, 3 were chosen to interview with McCain. Those 3 got a letter from Flake saying that since they already received a nom from McCain, they were removed from consideration. I don't know if the other 2 got noms from Flake.
