I got a call today from my district coordinator that I've received my appointment to the Class of 2015!!!

Congratulations! That is an achievement worth noted. Now you can go through the rest of your senior year with your mind at ease :).

AKH-- way to go! you get to start the usma class of 2015 appointment thread now :)

AKH did you already receive a nomination? All I'm waiting on is a nomination. If I get one will I be appointed a member right away?

@abeastlybeast
I think it takes a while for Admissions to go through the files that are totally complete and are worthy of admission. So I'd say it would take a few weeks before you receive your official appointment.

Congratulations AKH! Well Deserved.

Congratulations - damn, I can't believe I was in your shoes just a few short months ago!

Come prepared!

Thanks so much everyone! Yes I had Presidential and JROTC nominations, and an LOA.

My son also just was notified that he had an appointment (Presidental Nomination, LOA,complete file)

barracuda, out of interest, are you from the 10th or 11th district of Virginia?

Congratulations to AKH, BigNick's son and barracuda!!!!:yay::yay::yay:
Awesome news!!!! :groupwave:

Just wait until you get the BFE - the Appointment folder is beautiful.:thumb::thumb:

Now is not the time to slack off though.

Keep the grades up, bubble wrap and don't do some of the stupid things that Seniors tend to do.

Congratulations all!

Listen to buff81! Press on hard with your work and don't coast. In case you don't know, West Point requires a report on you from the various law enforcement agencies in your area. Towards the end of last year's school year, there was a flurry of questions on the board wondering about various run-ins with the law and the impact on their appointment. Enjoy your senior year within reason! :thumb:

We have Senate nomination, now what?

We just recieved a nomination from one of our Senators, we have a complete file, NOW WHAT?

BigMoe, I'm assuming you're a parent? One of the hardest things I had to to get used to in this process, ahead of you, was the realization after so many years of childrearing that it's our kids, not us in this. Your son or daughter has to go through Beast Barracks without you, get through four years without you, and serve in the military without you. One of the reasons for so many hoops in this process is to make sure that the young men and women who gain appointments really want them. I very much appreciated silence from admissions and field force after my plebe was given an appointment, to allow quiet reflective time before accepting it, and got very good advice to keep quiet myself so that my child could own the decision. I know how easy it is to get caught up in the process; congratulations on getting this far! Now try to take a step away and let your child consider options in one of the first adult decisions he or she will make-- and be proud of that child no matter what the decision.

[If my assumption is wrong, and you're the candidate, you need to lose the royal "we" in a hurry!]

SeaMars,
I agree with your post. I am a West Point graduate and spent 4 years at West Point as an instructor. I saw many cases of cadets failing because - when the going got tough - they did not have the desire and motivation to work extra hard because their parents wanted them to go to West Point more that they did.
My son has his final appointment but I tell him this story often - if the desire to go is not "a fire in his belly" he should not go.

It is very gratifying as a parent to watch the cc do all the legwork, wait an eternity to get the appointment, go slay the beast, and stand on his own two feet at 18 yrs old at the academy! Stand back and watch em, it's awesome!
