Class of 2015 Appointments

congrats to all...thanks for the info on where the info on Appt will show...will ask one more time for the sake of understanding...if candidate has LOA which essentially states 'admissions committee has recommended you for an appointment to USMA...accordingly, have reserved you a cadetship contingent upon receipt of nomination and continued excellent work in school...when these matters are resolved, you will be appointed..." and now has nomination...should candidate expect appt soon or will grades be asked for to prove the 'continued excellent work in school'...also, just curious, anyone know on the USNA portal how an LOA or appt shows up on it (if it does)...thanks

My son is a member of the Class of 2014 and he received his appointment right after Christmas. He had no LOA and did not go to SLS. He received his appointment months before another USMA candidate in his school who had an LOA. It was well up into the spring before the other candidate finally got an appointment; as an aside, this candidate had not bothered to apply to any backup schools and was in a real panic at the end.
 
about how many people are appointed out of those who were fully qualified w/ nomi, but did not have an LOA or Principal nomination?

cmccollum most people don't have LOAs, it just seems a lot of people do from looking at the posts on these forums. There's really no point in you knowing an exact percentage because really depends from candidate to candidate whether or not they're seen as a good prospective cadet.

If candidate has an LOA and received a nomination, they will be appointed soon. I believe final transcripts are sent to USMA at conclusion of senior year to ensure that good grades were maintained. However, I am assuming this and do not know for certain. I was appointed 3 days after receiving a nomination, and was not asked for current grades or GPA.

I am not familiar with the USNA portal, so I can't help you there.
 
Nothing ever showed up on my USNA portal when I got my appointment.

The Admissions Committee (or whatever it is called) meets on Tuesdays, so if your nomination comes through on a Friday (and you have a LOA), you should be appointed next Tuesday. At least, that what my district coordinator told me, and what happened with me.
 
Opened my acceptance packet this morning! The folder really is beautiful! :biggrin: I didn't have an LOA or anything, by the way.

Also, I hear that a lot of other people had their offers of appointment show up on their candidate portals usually before they received the offers through the mail. I got my acceptance packet this morning but my portal still doesn't show anything regarding an appointment.

Congratulations to you! It is a beautiful folder! My son and I both pick his up as we walk by it sometimes, just to look at it! Enjoy!

We are in the same boat: have LOA, nom received at the end of November, and nom posted on portal 12-9-10. Still nothing in the mail or offer of appointment on portal.:scratch:

Where on the candidate portal would the offer of admission appear?
 
does it normally show up there? I've heard of a lot people never seeing it until after they received the appointment in the mail

I think it may depend because mine showed up online days before I got anything in the mail, while others are saying they found out first through the mail.
 
Yeah I got my appointment in the mail yesterday. Still no sign of any offer of appointment section on my portal.
