I just recieved a letter saying that based on my Summer Seminar application, they have determined that i have the potential to compete for an appointment. It then listed additional infromation such as what i should be doing and that DoDMERB will be contacting me. So does this mean that im an official candidate? or that i have a good chance of becoming one.

I got the same thing in the mail today. I think we are candidates. Well, it did say they will send more information this summer so not quite yet I assume. That's just my interpretation. I know someone else could answer that better haha

Yeah got one too. Will be attending AFSS, first session. I think everyone who applies to the SS gets one of the letters.

I think only the ones that got accepted to the SS get one. I don't think that all who apply have the potential to get in.

Ok thanks everyone for the input. That's basically what I assumed because I've read everywhere that they notify you shortly after SS, but wasn't sure. Is there any way that the practice CFA at SS could hurt me, because I'll be just recently cleared from surgery on my shoulder and won't be able to do many pullups at all. Later in the summer I'll definately be able to do much better.

Doesn't really hurt at all. It's just to see how you're doing, more of a self-test than an official one. Your scores are not officially recorded. I did terrible at SS on the CFA and simply improved my scores and did better when it counted.

Ok thanks a lot! That's defiantely a huge relief becuase it was really worrying me haha

I'm kind of sad I didn't get into the Summer Seminar, but I still got one of these letters today.

Don't be sad, i was rejected too lol. Now I am a rising 2 dig so keep your head up!

A year ago my son also received a SS rejection letter. He was very dissapointed and discouraged, but he still worked hard toward his goal.
Now he is a class of 2014 appointee! If you really want it, keep working toward it!

Did they flat out reject you, or did you get waitlisted, or what? Don't worry, Steve said that competition was tough this year, I'm sure you'll have a better chance at the real thing.

Sorry. It probably sounded like I meant that just b/c you didn't get in means that you don't have the potential. That's not what I meant. I meant that probably not just anyone that threw an application together got one of those letters.

Yea, no offense taken.

I don't know if I got waitlisted or "flat out" rejected. I guess I got rejected because it says in the Summer Seminar letter that "due to the limited number of participants we can accommodate in Summer Seminar, we regret we are unable to invite you to attend this year's Summer Seminar." It doesn’t say anything about waitlisted. However, still to this day, the online application says "Your Status: Applicant (your application is under consideration)." So maybe if someone declines, I might be accepted.
If I don't, then that's okay. I'm still going to try my hardest to get an appointment. -By the way, thank you to all for the optimism!

I got rejected from SS but I'm here now so don't get too discouraged.

Shadow, I read somewhere about someone who just got an acceptance to SS. They said they had been formerly rejected, but I guess someone declined and left a slot. There's still hope!

Yea, I saw that and think that's really awesome. But that person said they were waitlisted and I don't think I am - I'll ask them how they knew they were waitlisted... Anyways, It's not that big of a deal. I'll work on what I can control for now.:thumb:

It doesn't make sense to me how I haven't recieved one of those letters. I'm pretty sure I'm waitlisted for SS because my status hasn't changed for a very long time. I got accepeted into the other 2 seminars and my ALO said I was very competitive along with my application. It is very strange to me why I haven't heard anything..
