At a formation just before the graduation parade today, the plebes were "reconized".

In this traditional ceremony, the upperclassmen file by the plebes, shake their hand, exchange first names for the first time, and "recognize" their entrance into the Cadet upperclass ranks. It is the symbolic end of Plebe year. They will actually officially be Yucks after the graduation tomorrow.

CONGRAULATIONS TO ALL OF THE CLASS OF 2015.

yuk before or after Buckner??

I'd mostly heard that they are not yuks until after Buckner, kind of not like being a plebe until A Day (new cadet during Beast). Are they officially yuks/yearlings right after graduation?? Or is it when the next academic term starts?
Thanks!

Unless things have changed greatly...

They are Yuks after graduation. They will wear 3rd class brass. They are not cadet corporals until after Buckner.

Scoutpilot's dead on. 2015 will be promoted to 3rd class tomorrow, and will be PFCs for Buckner and Corporals upon completion of Buckner.

The confusion comes when you get the term "pluck" for the summer as PFC's. We'll be CDT CPL's after Buckner even though we're promoted to 3rd class after tomorrow.

And 365 days until graduation for the Class of 2013 - or so I've been told.

They received the Shield already, which they will wear thru yuk year indicating they are 3C. But their rank is now Cadet PFC, and now wear US tab on their uniform. (plebes wear no rank)

Then after CFT they will get their bar and become cadet Corporals.

No longer plebes, but not yuks yet.

You don't say...

They are Yuks now (hence wearing Yearling Shields) but not yet Corporals. At West Point you are either a New Cadet, Plebe, Yuk, Cow, or Firsty. There is nothing in between. The Class of 2015 are Yuks.

This was my understanding as well, but much Cow noise was made about PLUKS during grad week. So maybe the tradition has changed? Or just cow pranks?

DS, class of 2015, is calling himself a pluke, no longer a plebe but not quite a yuk:smile:

Again - the Class of 2015 are Yearlings. They wear Yearling Brass. They are not Corporals until after Buckner and they return for academics - but they are Yuks. As mentioned before - all Cadets are either New Cadets, Plebes, Yearlings, Cows or Firsties. There are no "in between" designations.

BigNick, I think it depends on who you talk to. I'm a rising yearling here, and we have been adamantly told by the upperclassmen in our company and elsewhere in the Corps, we are plucks until Camp Illumination when we earn CDT CPL in the Corps. So its a matter of perspective and who you talk to. Also, we haven't been here a year yet. We still have another month before that's quite true.

Doesn't matter. The upperclassman who tells you that is dead wrong. There is no such class as "pluck." You are 3rd Class Cadets. The term Yuk is not linked to any rank. It's linked only to class. Is the Brigade CSM not a Firstie because he only holds NCO rank? No, nor are you any less of a Yuk for being a PFC.

People who say that garbage only do so because it makes them feel bigger to hold someone down for longer.

Ask the Comm what you are. You won't hear the word Pluck come out of his mouth.

This is not a ding on you at all. I appreciate your perspective. It bothers me that after a long plebe year, someone would try to deny you the status you've earned based on cadet mythology.

I think its more the idea that you need to finish CFT to be considered a full yearling Scout than tying it into rank. Camp Illumination just happens to be when we get promoted and signals CFT coming to a close. There isn't any disagreement over whether we are 3rd Class Cadets or not; we are definitly the 3rd Class here now.

But yea, it doesn't matter in the long run. As long as I finish and get to graduate in 2015, it'll all be good :)

Yeah, but you'll have people who don't complete all the Buckner requirements and wear PFC into the academic year. They'll be called Yuks just like the rest.

Good luck this summer. Hope you got the MIAD you wanted.

Yes, some rising Cows will be completing their CFT this summer, having missed it or not completed it last summer.

They're allowed to complete CFT without... completing the requirements?
