USMA Nomination With LOA

How long is the wait for an appointment,when a candidate recieves a senatorial nomination and is a holder of a letter of Assurance from West Point?

Do you recieve a call or is it all via mail? :smile:

After you receive news of the nom, your file still needs to go before the Admissions committee for the final vote of admission.

After that, as a courtesy to the nominating MOC, USMA gives the MOC 3 days to congratulate the candidate. After that time, the RC or FFR is free to tell the good news and West Point will have your Offer of Appointment in the mail.

The Admissions Committee meets every Tuesday.
Dec 6 will be the last Admissions Committee meeting until Jan 10.
 
I don't understand; I thought the LOA guaranteed an appointment as long as the candidate procured a nomination...

is the vote largely procedural?

My nom is dated Nov 23rd in the portal,so I'm assumming with Thanksgiving break,they may not have met until the 29th(at best) to discuss my file,assumming that's the earliest they would have file together? Given the holiday and when it posted on their portal,it might have been a challenge to put it together by that 29th meeting..

Am I on track with this thought process or is there a substantial lag in file reviews vs. WP portal nomination posts?

Looks like it is possible before Christmas,however, not much time left with their limited holiday meeting time.

When you receive an appointment, does anything change in your portal signifying that you did in fact receive one ?

Yes. There is change to the portal. Below nominations received there will be a new tab that says offered appointment with a sub tab that say instructions for those offered appointment and if you accept the appointment it will say when you accepted it. However in my case the portal did not change for a week.
In response to the "guaranteed LOA appointment" there has to be a final check and make sure everything still looks as good as it did back in september. Remember if there is one then theres at least two more. So you could be on a long line of other LOA and NOM recipients. Based on my assumption the committee reviews at least 20 per week. Two for each RC. As they say in the army "hurry up and wait."
