Congratulations to all of the MIDS graduating next week!! We have given all 14 of our plebes their gifts. Yes, for most sponsor families, our plebes stay with us until they graduate. All 14 (9 USN and 5 USMC) got their swords and their other gifts.

To the fortunate applicants who are part of incoming class of 2020, good luck. Dont let PS get you. Blend in and remember to work together as a team. Drink water even when you dont want to. Spring has been extremely mild here in Annapolis. Normally when that happens, mother nature brings on a nasty, sticky, humid summer.

Just finished bringing our last guests to the FBO at BWI. We arranged for two families to be at the sons' graduation last week. Two of our plebes from class of 2016 had some hard times financially and told their sons' that they could not make it out to graduation. We (father), made all of the arrangements flights, lodging and meals. To see the look on the MIDS faces as their parents and families came out of the house to greet them was priceless. There is no way they could ever repay that debt and as usual my parents just said pay it forward later in their respective careers- pilot and swo. Remember to look out after the enlisted and always, try to handle disciplinary problems at lowest level possible. Remember, that if you old enough to die for your country, then you are old enough to drink (RESPONSIBLY) even if under 21!

Looking back on meeting the plebes from class of 2016 for the first time thinking of the strangers about to come into your lives. Now as they leave, members our rather large extended family. Fair winds and following seas to the recently departed Ensigns and 2nd Lieutenants

We love you sponsor families !!!!!!! (My DD is a plebe no more!)
From the ability to leave stuff, eat stuff, get rides, chill, pet the dog, come to her sporting events, and my DD's ability to shop with her sponsor mom and cook occasionally with her sponsor mom, your selfless gift to these kids is so appreciated. I have heard the same stories from my DD's buddies about their sponsors as well. That has been one of the nicest surprises of the first year. To meet many alumni from her sponsor family as they roll through town and talk to my DD about their careers...priceless. Thanks for all you do. To somewhat Quote a past thread (which I can't find) of same sort when one future plebe commenter questioned should they stay with a sponsor if the sponsors political agenda does not match that of the plebe, a current midshipmen parent replied "I don't care about their politics, I just flat out love them!!" Ditto!

For the first time in 20 years, we are taking a year off from new plebes, 4-5/year since 1996. We needed some time back for family events and major house projects.

We still have our upperclass and dozens of alumni who come back for reunions, weddings, DC-area duty, stopovers on PCS/TAD transits. We are traveling/attending to 3 weddings this summer, 1 winging, 1 change of command, 2 promotions.

I have no doubt we will pick up again next year... the sofa will be strangely bare. We call it the Opium Sofa. All it takes is a plebe(s) with a full belly, in comfy reg PT gear, with a movie just started and their Pro Knowledge book open on their lap, for instantaneous and oblivious napping to occur. Dogs can bark, people can be laughing, the oven timer going off - nary a fluttering eyelid.
