    Time flies!

Wow, how time flies! Seems like yesterday DS was doing the 2016 application! Now Swab Summer is a not-so-distant memory and the academic year has started. Good luck to those applying to 2017! Go 2016! Go Bears!!!!

Eeek! Where has the time gone, indeed! DS is class of 2013, and little brother is chomping at the bit for the class of 2019 to hurry up and get here.

    Good luck to all :thumb:

    Application now active

Just wondering what advantage there is to the application for early action I and early action II - what is the difference from last year? Thanks.

EA is the same as last year except there are two groups this year with one earlier and one later deadline to hopefully allow a greater number of applicants to participate. Everything else is the same...

My DD saw that the applications were open Thursday 8/23, got excited, and started filling her's out. She even received an email from the Academy on Friday 8/24 acknowledging that she had started the application process. She went back on today to continue the application and it now shows that it will be available Sept 1. She cannot get back on the application page. Anyone else having this issue? I'm guessing that they decided that the applications should not be available until 9/1, and pulled the link?

My DS was filling out sections today. No apparent problems. Worth a call tomorrow if you continue to have problems. It would seem really silly that they would open the link and then decide to close it. I'm thinking it is more likely a 'glitch' (that is techno-speak for 'SNAFU.")

Would someone please explain to me what the differences are between the different early action admissions and then the regular admissions?

The main differences are: EA1 you hear by 12/24 and could be placed on the wait list; EA2 you hear by 2/1 and could be placed on the wait list; RA you hear by 4/15 and cannot be placed on the wait list. I recommend reading the Applicant Handbook, which is available in the "Downloadable Forms" section of the Class of 2017 application, for more information.

Is this for the NROTC scholarship? Or a particular school?

Is admissions more inclined to say no to early applicants rather than defer to regular admissions?

No matter when you apply - EA1, EA2, or RA - you will receive a definitive decision of "appointment" (conditional or full), "reject" or (in a very small number) "wait list" by the Decision Date.

Unlike the past, there is no "defer to regular admissions" anymore.

Under the "old" EA admissions system, EA candidates were given another shot during RA. This caused too much anxiety and (false?) hope, where you could be in a "limbo" state not knowing your ultimate fate until April 15.

The new way is much better, allowing candidates who are not appointed to begin "Plan B" much earlier.

I'm not sure I understand your question, maybe Luigi answered it correctly, but there is not an EA vs. RA standard for an appointment. That is, we're not more selective during EA vs. RA...the standard is the same regardless of when you apply, which is why we tell people to apply when you're comfortable with your record and ready for it to be evaluated. Historically, a higher percentage of EA applicants (16-18%) receive appointments compared to RA applicants (10-12%), but that's because historically our higher quality applicants apply under EA. Our selection process is designed to provide the first and last applicant that we review the same chance of earning an appointment, so it really makes no difference when you apply.
