All juniors interested in attending West Point can begin the admissions cycle for the class of 2018 by opening a candidate file beginning no earlier than Jan 8th. You can also apply for SLS (now Summer Leadership Program) at the same time. To be competitive for SLP you will need a good set of SATs or ACTs sometime prior to the application deadline. Last year's cutoff was April 1 if my mind serves me, but vacancies were handed out prior to that date. Call your Regional Commander for details.

can you tell us if there are any essays in the SLE application?

trying to plan ahead as ds is in a boarding school and only home at Christmas break....

Will PSAT scores suffice for the Summer Leadership program or is it strongly recommended that you provide an ACT or SAT score? Also (for SAT/ACT), what is a 'good set' for the purposes of that Leadership application...the same range as is expected to be 'in the hunt' for the admissions cycle?
Thanks--

SLS

PSAT score can be submitted for SLS. However, the standardized testing system is a big part of your whole file. Start now by taking and preparing for these tests, SAT/ACT.

Happy Holidays!!

If SLS applications are handled as they were last year, some early applicants who had reportable decent PSAT scores (190+ range) were accepted within days. No essay was involved in the application. It was pretty straight forward in terms of testing scores and personal data - not a ton of info required, no recommendations needed. If you check last year's SLS threads from January, you'll find the applications opened on Jan 10 and some folks were accepted by Jan. 14. Good luck!!
