Class of 2018 hopefuls... Anyone hearing anything yet from KP Admissions?

Conditional Status

Just brought DS up for overnight today; original visit was postponed due to the shutdown. Was asking Admissions Officer about LOAs, Holds and timing and she says when was last time you checked website?

DS replied "one week ago". AO looks at me and says check it tonight. I checked.

Status is now Conditional.

I assume (having no other documentation) that this means he is green lighted "pending" something? He is waiting on word of his nomination and we have a DODMERB issue to clear, but this is a good/great news, right?

We are bringing my DS for an overnight next week. You mentioned an admissions presentation. Was there anything else for you. What time do you pick your Ds the next day?

I know of the day visit presentation which I assume is the same as the overnight. My DS did both visits but didn't have to stay for the presentation for the overnight as he already was in on the presentation for the day visit.

They need to be prepared to talk. The prospective candidates had a question/answer session about themselves. Dress formal (suit/tie, etc). It took a couple hours. They are then let go with their host (a Plebe) for classroom visitations, etc. Day ended around 4ish? maybe. Overnights pretty much the same but much more time (Dinner, breakfast, more classrooms) If their host has any rec activities, they might be able to join him/her. I believe they are done by noon but check with admissions. They would know.

Parents did sit in on the presentation, even asked to join in at times. There was nothing for the parents after the it though. We just toured the campus again.

DS did the overnight. I was there at 10:30 am to get him this morning; he arrived at the Admissions Office at 11am.

Yesterday when I dropped him off, Admissions Officer (AO) asked each candidate to introduce and tell the group about them selves. In addition to DS, there were 3 other candidate's who were doing a day visit. AO went through a Power Point stopping frequently to ask and answer Q's. Briefing was done at 11:45am when Plebes came to pair up with Candidates and take them away. Parents allowed to roam. Nothing "off limits" except the dorms.

DS felt visit was very well worth it. It allowed him to make some very meaningful comparisons between USCGA, USNA and USMMA that he could not make with just the day visit. He was able to spend close to 24 hours with a number of plebes and got the straight scoop. He is now 100% certain that USMMA is the 1st choice.

PS: I did not tell him his status had changed to Conditional Offer until we were half-way home.... Formal TWE showed up this evening in the US Mail.

Received nomination in the mail yesterday for USNA and USMMA. Today the LOS from USMMA, contigent on medical waiver. Little baby steps....

CONGRATS.... Those are more than baby steps (conditional LOA and Nom). Those are 2 giant leaps forward. :thumb:

My son received a conditional letter on the condition he passes the CFA, which he did, medical clearance, which just happened as well. The remaining condition is his Congressional nomination, which we are still waiting on. What my son and us are trying to figure out is when Congressional nominations will be released. Waiting by the mailbox daily is no fun and driving everyone crazy and when my son wrote our Congressional Service Coordinator about when he may hear one way or the other no response. The individual had been pretty responsive to previous inquires, but the the silence is killing him and us.

We are in same fleet (only our ship is in PA).

DS will get a response back from our Congressman that a decision has not yet been made (he followed up in early and late December).

DS has not received any feedback from the PA Senators. He applied with one Senator for USMMA and the other for the USNA. Neither Senator would support multiple academies.Another poster indicated that one of the PA senators would make and publish decision by mid-January.

My understudying is that the slates need to be turned in by 31JAN2013.

So far in PA, it appears that only one MOC has done a press release naming nominees.

Meanwhile, we await the 7th semester report card so we can check that box....

Delayed gratification is painful...

Received a letter of commitment from KP on Christmas Eve....Only item I have to work on is my BB throw in the CFA....Still awaiting USNA....It would be a very difficult, yet one to be thankful for, decision to ponder. Received nominations to both USNA/USMMA...very happy

What a Christmas present

My son received his principal appointment letter Dec. 21. He has already signed and accepted the appointment. He was recruited to play baseball for the academy and will be playing next year. I'm not sure if that made a difference or not, but it sure made for an even better Christmas around our house.

depends

it will vary from state to state, and year to year. My 2015 DS got his appt in Nov. The following year none of the DS's from our state heard until Feb or March. This year seems to be early again- it all depends on the congressmen and senators and when they get their nominations done- and then KP can take it from there. Don't read into anything... you will hear when you hear. Best of luck to everyone! Congrats to those that have already heard!

Congratulations to your son...and you!

My son is also being recruited to play baseball at UMMA. He needs to finish up is application essay and CFA and he just received senatorial and congressional nominations (competitive only, no principals given by either). The coach submitted a "chip" sheet on/for him to admissions so I'm not sure how much that helps or expedites things.

Congratulations again!

I received my LOA on Dec. 30th! Little late Christmas present, but by far the best present! So excited, can't wait til July! (well maybe after Indoc...)

Congratulations to all of the new appointees

As a Plebe 2017 parent, I enjoy remembering the excitement a year ago when we were in the same spot as you are now. The next few months seem to fly by so remember to enjoy family life and get ready for the new adventure that KP has to offer. Hang on to your seats, it is a roller coaster ride!

Congrats!

:groupwave: CONGRAUTLATIONS to those receiving appoiintments! Welcome to the Kings Point family!

I would check with the KP Admissions office to be sure, but I believe it means your application has been reviewed and while they aren't yet offering you an appointment, they definitely are declining one, either. Sometimes a "Hold" means KP has already filled their allotment of candiates for your state, but because it's so early in the process, I would be surprised if that's the case.

DS received a letter from KP in regards to the HOLD Candidate Status. What the HOLD status means is that they found him academically qualified and now he is placed on the National Waiting List as a HOLD Candidate. As vacancies occur, I goes you are offered appointments in order of merit…etc.. He received this letter on 6 December.

No I don't know why he received this early but all I can think of is that his application was completely completed (Not 7th Sem grade).

Not sure if this helped. Best of Luck.
