Class of 2019 Appointment Thread

Hello everyone! My name is Anthony and like many, I've been waiting what seems like an eternity for any word about my appointment to USAFA. The waiting ended last friday when I received and accepted my appointment to USAFA Class of 2019!! Congratulations to all!!

I think the Academy will want to know what your final grades are and I have read here somewhere that if your grades fall significantly you can lose your appointment.
They want to know you continue to push yourself to achieve good grades...even with the appointment.
Why not just work extra hard in that class, get a tutor, and end with a B or higher...then you don't need to worry about it.
My thoughts only...maybe a BGO or parent can add.
 
Thanks for the replies!! My ALO told me the same thing, I'm in the process of increasing my calc grade. I've just been worried is all, I've been wanting to attend the academy for so long I wouldn't know what to do if I got my acceptance rescinded.

When do we get an actual appointment in the mail? Or is the appointment only from the portal?

You'll get a letter from USAFA via USPS about a week after your appointment shows up on the portal. Letter only, no BFE.

Our DS received an email notification stating there was an update on his portal which contained his Appointment letter. A few weeks later he received a copy of the same letter in the mail. Good luck......
 
DS got the call from Congressman Devin Nunes office yesterday; Email confirmation from USAFA this morn. He is excited for Colorado in June! All my best to each candidate, as this is quite a process...and journey!

So if I see above a student from the same district and state got an appointment, it is very realistic that my DS won't get in? He only had one MOC nom.

So if I see above a student from the same district and state got an appointment, it is very realistic that my DS won't get in? He only had one MOC nom.

From my understanding, he would then go into the national pool at this point, assuming the other recipient from your district was indeed charged to the MOC from your district, and not some other nomination source. (I think-I am definitely no expert at this process ;) )

Baileydb is correct and you need not worry about an appointment from the same district. Only 1 nom is needed and others on the MOC's slate will, at a minimum, compete in the national pool, where about half will qualify. If your DS has a solid whole person package, there is a good chance of appointment! In fact, multiple appointments are not uncommon according to the threads on this forum.

Each parent on here, myself included, knows how hard the wait is. I will be rooting for your DS!

I am a proud parent of a current 4th class (freshman) this year. I have enjoyed reading and learning on this forum for the past two years and this will be my first post as I have never felt I could contribute to many of the discussions until now. My son recently sent a post to my family's email that surprised us all because he always stated that he did not feel his high school prepared him for college. He had always stated that he didn't think his high school did a good job at preparing him for college before he went to the academy; however he has now recanted and said after completing most of his first year that he must give his school credit for preparing him for his first year at the academy. His advice t0 those still attending high school was to try to learn what they teach you because it will pay off in college when you see the material gain. I read the earlier post about worrying about a low grade in a class. Chances are they will not rescind your appointment unless you really give up and start failing courses. Do not worry about grades, of course they are important and you can't skate buy senior year and just let your hard work and great performance slide because you have been accepted. Work hard on your scholastics because you will need this knowledge to exceed in your academics at the academy, and even beyond this; you will need this knowledge to fulfill your career. Learn for you; don't learn for the sake of a grade. This will make your life much easier at the academy. Enjoy senior year to its fullest, but study hard for yourself and gain as much knowledge as you can. Not for anyone else but yourself.


As far as the question regarding boots; look at a website called uspatriottactical.com. The boot that was similar if not the boot was the 690 Belleville waterproof sage green boot. Please note that boots can and will change by the academy so this is information that was practical last year and may change for next year. We did not purchase boots beforehand because our son did not want us to. He did not have any real issues with the issued boots during basic training and the academy did a great job with blisters. If you really want to buy a pair of boots, the model above should be similar to the issued boot and is heavy which will help prepare your ds or dd. Many wore these boots as they entered the first day, but keep in mind you never want to single yourself out.
