Class of 2020 cadet willing to answer questions

4.2 gpa
As far as classes I pretty much took all AP classes available (chem, physics, calc, history, govt. Microecon, lit+Lang composition etc.)
Test scores: math and English:29 writing:29 reading and science:28 ( probably my biggest struggle for some reason but this was my third try and my RC told me to stop taking it in September once I got the LOA.)
Cfa: (I'm a girl) 1 mile: 7:27, pushups:33 situps:78 pullups: 2 bball throw :50 ft shuttle:9.1
Basketball, track, and cross country
8 letters 4 bball and 4 track
3x state finalist in shot put and discus for track (one year for shot put and the next for both)
Rotary champion bball
MVP for basketball and track senior year
Honorable mention track and bball 2 years in a row
All academic first team both sports 2 years in a row
All star team senior year ( all state in defense)
Girls state
Key club, NHS, international awareness club, and interact club ( these were more so fillers for me, it's not my strongest area but I just wanted to stay involved)
Lastly, I worked all the four years full time at Rudys BBQ about 35hrs a week ( you're from Texas so you should know be familiar with it)
I didn't go to SLE because I wasn't too interested in WP at the time I was really pushing for AFA since its in my city (it's an ironic story of how I changed my mind) and I didn't have the money.
I applied for five noms and got one from my congressman( VP, presidential, 2 senators+congressman)

Really all of this rubbish now. Everything here has its own sets of challenges and me and my classmates were just saying how humbling this place makes you. I know kids that were in differential equations or some of the hardest classes and came from some of the top schools and now we are all together in MA103 struggling with some seemingly basic concepts. I am definitely not as smart as I thought I was before I got here

Wow great info. What has been the hardest thing so far? The best thing so far?

The hardest thing was probably BEAST. Its just the mental part. Waking up everyday super early, getting yelled at or dropped for pointless things, going to a million briefs, and being constantly reminded that you are just a "new cadet" and being treated as one really takes a toll especially at the end. Sometimes I'd wake up just exhausted physically and mentally and wonder why I wanted to go to West Point. It's definitely apart of the learning process. Finishing Beast is oddly satisfying and now that I look back it is a bit of a blur. I just had to keep in mind that it ends eventually. Some people will say BEAST was easy but it depends on how you approach it. The best thing is being here with all these really unique and cool people and getting the experience of a lifetime. Everyone on the outside is so curious about it and loves it but we all have a bond between us from the things we go through together on a daily basis here good and bad. Also Arvin is amazing and the teachers are pretty great. It's definitely a well rounded place.

Thanks for the response! If possible, how and when does a cadet getting the following while still attending USMA:

-Air Assault qualified

-Airborne qualified

-German Armed Forced Badge for Military Proficiency

-Sapper qualified
I am not too well versed on this so don't quote me and anyone else who knows more can chime in but right now actually the yuks and cows are doing their applications to these schools and they are due pretty soon. After that they have a tryout where they do some crazy physical training type stuff. Air Assault is apparently the most popular choice and its right here at west point. One of the squad leaders in my platoon who went said that they smoke you a lot there just for the heck of it. Again I can't strongly back this info because I am just a newcomer but this is just the things that I hear around me. I know you can do both airborne and air assault but i don't know if it can be in the same summer. I think it is if your schedule permits it and if you have no other obligations.

Hooah! Hang in there!

Thanks for looking back to the kids behind and helping them with your wisdom and experience. You're a true leader! Keep it up.

You most certainly can go to Sapper school, CDQC, and a variety of other military schools but they are extremely competitive to get. The GPB is earned over the course of the year and involves a few military events and a physical test. Air assault and airborne usually happen your first summer and are given based off military and physical grade.

Air Assault and Airborne are summer training options. Sapper school is not open to cadets.

You are wrong, cadets are allowed to attend Sapper Leaders Course (Sapper School). My school sent 1 cadet to it and he passed.

Thank you for your service and best wishes to you!
My DD has just been accepted to the powerlifting team

My 2020 DD has just been accepted to the powerlifting team. She has only had a couple of practises which are mandatory M-R. She already loves it. Coaches and fellow members are great. It looks like from the website they have two meets for fall semester. At this early stage that is about all I know, hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. Did your DD have prior experience? Was there a tryout?

There was a two day try out and a written essay requirement, as far as I know. DD has been a weight lifter for several years and had been attempting to compete this past summer. However, training for beast and competition was a conflict.

hey literally a few months ago I was still a candidate and cadet candidate so i am willing to answer any questions you have about west point or the application to maybe soothe your concerns.
I have a son who is in his YUK year. He failed a class during the first semester. He is on administrative leave. He has been given option to retest the final exam.

Can you give me some insights of what happens if he fails. if he passes. When does he go back if he passes? What are his options in general? What is the normal process for handling a class failure?
