Class rigor, am I okay?

Thanks! Did you enjoy your time at the academy? What was your service time like? What are you doing now?

I am a mom. Bullet is my DH who flew the F15E and retired after 20 yrs, now is the F-35 guy at the Pentagon. DS opted AFROTC(12) over AFA, will be leaving for UPT to Laughlin AFB in a few short weeks.

My experience is just being an old poster here on this site who went through the process for DS in 08, and lived the AF life as a spouse for 20 yrs. This is not rocket science to assist posters regarding how the process works, you just have to use common sense and acknowledge how the AF changes yr to yr.

DS attended UMDCP, last yrs top AFROTC det in the nation for large units. He opted AFROTC for several reasons, but the biggest one was we sat him down and had him review what the next 4 yrs would like from an academic perspective as a Govt major. He was very good in Math and Science, but he hated the classes. Once he realized that for 4 yrs it was still going to be filled with hardcore Math and Science classes, and saw that at UMDCP Scholars he would intern on the Hill he called the ball.

I only say this because many lurkers and posters never take the time to investigate the core curriculum. They see they offer a LA degree, but what they don't see is even with a LA degree you still will be in these courses. As I said, he is a strong Math/Science student (720 M 1st and only sitting for SAT --- 34 M, 34 S 1st and only sitting ACT), all AP Maths and APPhys. He just didn't have his heart in it, and couldn't see doing that for 4 more yrs.

Make sure you take this time and investigate everything you possibly can, including curriculums between your Plan A(AFA) and Plan B (traditional college). The more you investigate, the more you will feel comfortable in your decision.
