So they allowed the cadets to make a 5 minute call (on Saturday morning) home for Fathers Day before they went into the field for (7) days. 1st Regt has been there since June 3rd and the standardized testing was done on the 6th. We learned that at some point between the 6th and the 20th when he called that they had went "out in the field" for (5) days but slept in large tents on cots. They had also qualified with the rifle and were able to shoot several automatic weapons...my son's favorite is the M249 SAW (Squad Assualt Rifle).
They were heading out on Saturday for (7) days in the field again but this time "will be sleeping on the ground with the ticks". My son had already removed (4) ticks from their 1st time in the field. Needless to say, he said it's been hot, hotter and humid most of the time. He forgot to bring chapstick and his lips are fried. Maybe something for future cadets to throw on their packing list.
