Coast Guard Helo down in Mobile Bay

Not following your logic at all. You're not making sense. I guess the shifting tides of sands in the desert doesn't move things at 5 kts a few hours four times a day. Bays are the worst.

Snarky, rancorous commentary in a thread about lost servicemembers? Really?

For once, let's try not to turn this into a fight.

I am not aware of a tradition immediately after losing Coasties. I've seen wreaths dropped at sea from the air.

It's a small small service. Less Coasties than Navy officers. Then you break that down to... there are something like 5,000 or 6,000 Coast Guard officers. Two pilots are officers. If you don't know the person directly, you know someone who was his friend.

I've been back and forth between google and facebook looking for updates, but one thing is sure; it ripples through the entire service.

I've heard at least one name bounced around which I'm not going to repeat right now.

You know him or you know someone who does.... that's how it works for the Coast Guard, across the entire service. It's sad for everyone.

Sad times and circumstances indeed.

Scout, I have to give this to Mongo regarding the "wash", it is all about getting to the bodies. Again, no peeing contest, my post was to only illustrate why they were not declared dead.

We are getting off topic, family members are crying. CG members are feeling a loss. This is the time we stop and say a prayer for those who will never be the same.

There are parents that lost a child. Wives that lost their soul mate. Children that will never have their parent attend their HS graduation.

We need to embrace the CG and let them know that their pain hurts all of us too.

I'm not sure what you're "giving" to anyone. My point was, and is, that the aviators were not "missing" in the typical sense, but were almost certainly with the aircraft. The recent announcement confirms that, I *think*.

I hope their families find closure from the ensuing investigation.

I came from a career field with as few as 800 men in it (about 1500 now) and every time we took a loss (combat or otherwise), it was felt by everyone - every funeral had/has as many of us as could/can attend from all over the country and the world.

Best

I would say at this time it is only appropriate for us to think of the families of those involved in this mishap. May God be with them and watch over their loved ones in these difficult days ahead.
Semper Paratus and Coasties, we sure do support you :thumb:

officially two names have been released. One more has been spread around the Academy by several officers but thus far remains "unofficial."

Scout,

I agree with you this is the time for supporting the CG, and not fighting. I apologize if my comment came off that way. It was not my intention.

I have to say I feel for the families if there is no type of traditional fanfare military service. I have stood next to Bullet through these losses, be it AF or Army. As sad as it is to attend, there is something at the same time to embrace. It is almost a closure.

I wish for every person that is crying tonight due to this loss, that we all admire them, and are proud they were true HEROES.

Maybe they will have someone tell them about this site. Maybe when they can't sleep tonight or tomorrow or 5 days from now they will lurk here. We can't give comfort or guidance, but we can show our sympathy and appreciation for their loved one.

Bless them, bless their family, and most of all may they find peace with this devastation.

I haven't heard anything...No names of course, but were any of them recent graduates that people would know? For instance, when 2012 were 4/c.

I would respectfully request we all refrain from any conjecture or request for names of those involved in this tragic mishap. When appropriate, the official notification will be made public. We must remember that there are parents, siblings, grandparents, etc. who are praying for a miracle right now. Please, let's all just pray for the best, and keep these crew members and pilots in our prayers. Times like these are never easy.
May God watch over all who were involved and comfort those who wait for news.

I agree with USNA1982BGO.

The first lesson learned in this situation is silence.

Feeling soo sad for the entire Coast Guard community tonight. Thoughts and prayers!!

My deepest condolences go out to these families and prayers for those still waiting.
