College Programmer Gets Scholarship

sort of like Plebe Summer but spaced out over two years :thumb:

Dunninia, you are so right. I think the college programmers are largely anonymous save for their family and friends. I can't tell you how many times I've had to explain to "civilians" that my son was in NROTC but still paying tuition. I've had people try to argue the point. Simply put there isn't enough public awareness about the plight of college programmers. These kids are out proving themselves everyday. Hungry competitors who should not be taken for granted.

Here is a link to a recent article about NROTC.

Accurate enough, save for the fact that there is not a mention of the college programmers:thumbdown: Let's collate our stories and sell Hollywood a screen play:cool:

I agree. They were definitely anonymous in this article. :unhappy:
I like the movie idea. Maybe we can have real college programmers as actors, along the line of "Act of Valor". It can include romance, hardship, temptation, failure and success! What else do you need for a movie? Oh yeah, money!

Terp, congrats!

Is your DS at University of Maryland College Park (judging by your username) and doing NROTC through the George Washington University unit? I'm heavily considering going through this route (college programmer too) - is there any way we can get in contact?

Actually I am the Terp-UMCP 1979 and UMAB 1984. DS defected to UVA-I'm not sure why but he loves it. PM me if I can help.

For current college programmers looking for scholarship chances, for the class of 2014 there were 171 2 year scholarships awarded. They were of 4 types-national, OD, tweeddale and leadership. DS's was a leadership which is entirely at the unit level. There were 52 awarded nationwide and never more than 1 per unit and appears major is not a factor(totally up to the CO). Hope this may help others.
