So I am in an interesting situation, but not one that is entirely unheard of, I suppose.

I graduated from high school last year, applied to the U.S.C.G.A. and did not get accepted. After getting rejected from Coast Guard I decided to attend Marion Military Institute in Marion, Alabama. Now, MMI is one of the schools which the five service academies use as a prep school, so I am here studying alongside many of the "prepsters" for each of the Academies as a "self-prep."

The biggest problem which I have with being a "self-prep" is timing. I was unable to submit my application until the third week of December, due to the fact that my ALO said that U.S.A.F.A. really didn't just want to see my application as if I was just out of high school and taken a gap year, so my college transcripts (first semester) HAD to be in before I submitted my application.

As a "self-prep" (and even in high school) I feel I have done very well, but I wanted to know what other people thought about the timing of the application. I know the app deadline isn't until Feb. 1, but most people have theirs in around Sep-Nov? Does the fact that I didn't get my app in until December hurt me at all?

A quick run-down of my profile, to provide a little basis:

    High School:
    - G.P.A. 3.88 (unweighted) 4.28 (weighted)
    - 32 ACT composite, 28 Math, 35 English, 34 Reading, 32 Science
    - National Honor Society
    - Class President
    - Varsity Track (Team Co-captain)
    - Varsity Cross-Country (Team Co-captain)
    - Scouting (Eagle Scout)
    - Various other sundry things (work experience, community service, etc.)

    College:
    - G.P.A. 4.00 (President's List)
    - Promoted to C/E6 (Cadet Staff Sergeant) as a Squad Leader
    - S-3 of historical society
    - Chemistry Tutor
    - Received Nomination from Senator and House Rep

I hope not...DS did not get his CFA done until MLK day. That was the final piece of his app. Your stats look great....best of luck!

    A bit more on this....

If you received a NOM from both your rep and senator, then those slates can not be finalized until all of the NOMS submit their applications. The academy is not going to choose the winner from the slate without all 10 applications in house.

There is a deadline for a reason. You met the deadline. Now you get to wait until March with (most) of the rest of us.
