Another former TACP type, but as an ALO with the 82nd / 14 ASOS as a Capt, and as the deployed ASOG/CV as an O-5 with 3 EASOG in OIF in 04.
Humped a few rucks, jumped from just about anything that could get us airborne. Great times, OUTSTANDING NCOs! Was glad to see the shift to make this a permanent career field for the ALOs, becuase as was stated before, there was a lot of Capts that didn't want to be there (I was not one of them, I enjoyed my time as a ground-pounder / non-leg immensely). Also glad to see the push to emphasize the JTAC qualification for the right to be final controller; too many who weren't trained properly just thought the ability to dial up a frequency made them qualified to control air effects.
Got to support a LOT of the AF guys on the ground in CCT, Combat Wx, SF, and TACP as the EASOG Dep. Not a single thing I did in my flyiong career made me prouder -- those guys were true heroes down range!
As towards prepping for CCT? What Hornet said -- become a PT monster, and then work even harder at pushing yourself beyond your limits.
