Commissioning 2015

Congratulations!

And I will tell you that though I practiced, the one I placed on my son fell off last year! He actually had to have the hoops changed a bit since they were done a tad wrong.

It was much less stressful putting the cord on at his graduation from IBOLC!

My DS also commissions on the 15th...His Korean Vet Grandfather will do his salute. Unfortunately, his WWII Vet Grandfather just passed away a month ago at 93.
DS really wanted them both to be there.

Is there another forum (Army/USAR/or even combined like this one) that anyone can recommend for continued advice?

For your DS, yes, encourage him to join platoonleader.mil, it's a forum for company grade army officers (it's a great resource for new O's). However, and I'm sure you were referring to forums for you, you will not be able to access the PL forum. I'm not a huge internet guy so I don't know the most popular forums out there.

Congratulations to you and your son Ohio2015Parent! I well remember your journey and that ‘epic’ thread!

And about the bars, hells yes, use them!

Congrats.

I think for people to understand the feeling/range of emotions the only comparison I can say for myself is it is comparable to the day you welcomed your child in the world. Tears of joy and wonder, looking into the future as you pin their butter bars on. You never forget any moment of that day. The weather, their name being announced, who sat next to you, etc. It is a whole new life being created by them.

@Ohio2015Parent, congratulations! It's funny because I have been wondering about some of the things you mention -- not getting the bars on right, the bars falling off, not being tall enough to reach my son's shoulders. (Can I bring a stool? Has anybody ever done that?)

And my son wouldn't be commissioning for TWO MORE YEARS (assuming all goes as he plans).

I also ponder the age-old question: what will I wear? smh. Can't believe I worry about this stuff.

So happy for you!!!

I forgot to say the best is yet to come as a parent. Just returned from Texas visiting our DS, it was the happiest days of my life. Why? Because he said I can't believe they pay me to do what I love. Not many of us have that luxury of loving their job that much. Our kids do!

God Bless our military members and their families.
God Bless America

God speed Class of 2015 commissioned officers. Thank you for defending my family.

Off to South Carolina tomorrow for the Gamecock Battalion commissioning ceremonies on Friday. Got DS's bedroom and bathroom all squared away... it remains to be seen if I'll still be forward deployed to his bathroom or if the wife will declare my exile at a temporary end until he leaves for TBS. Trying to keep an eye on the potential tropical storm forming off the coast and hoping it doesn't rain on our day. Still have to buy tissues on the way out of town.

Watch out world! Congratulations!

kinnem, you were first to reply to my first post/inquiry. Can't believe how time has flown.

Congratulations to DS and wish him the best as he enters the best years of his life.

Congratulations! I want to hear all about it when you return. I feel my eyes leaking a bit at the thought...So you get to have him home for a bit after commissioning?

So, after 4 eventful years, DS commissions in the morning. He accomplished just about everything he wanted to while in ROTC, including an amazing CULP trip to the South Pacific, graduating from CDQC, successfully competing in Ranger Challenge, Sandhurst, Best Ranger, Mountain Man, and US Army Small Bore National Championships, 2 different CTLT trips, George C Marshall ...the list goes on. The opportunities presented by AROTC are endless and well worth the time and effort.

I believe he's leaving his school's program better than he found it, but like most things in life, it's now time to move on. He got his first choice of AD Infantry, and got his orders today for Hawaii.

Thanks to this forum for the five or so years of information, assistance, entertainment and humor. It's been a great resource. Most of all, best of luck to all of your sons and daughters, whenever they are in the process. I'll still be around - it's a hard habit to break.
