I second this advice! Beat Retreat is amazing. One tip for helping with the heat is to get there early and sit in the top bleachers. You'll get a little bit of air that way.

Our daughter admitted that for the parade at the end of Indoc last year she could not play while she marched. She had played several years in a concert band but had never marched and was playing new music on a new instrument. If you figure that half of Band Co. performing Beat Retreat will be plebes who have all had to learn new music, some of them learned new instruments and others have never marched before, their performance goes beyond amazing. Wait until you see them slow march! Do NOT miss Beat Retreat!

I love reading all these stories. Brings back such memories... my son is a 1/C in 2co. I have nothing to add but to tell you that the kiddos will be just fine if you don't send them all the correct stuff. The kids will just LOVE getting anything from home.

and yeah, the PC's will find ways to break the rules, but that is the chance they are willing to take, kinda like chosing your battles. I know I stressed over him breaking the "rules", but if that 10 min cat nap is what he needed, and he was willing to accept the punishment if he was caught, who was I to tell him what to do... but it took me a while to accept all of this.

I remember one young man last year who slept in his bottom drawer to avoid sleeping in his bed and havin' to remake his bed.... to me that is crazy, but just one more story that I will cherrish.

And beat retreat should not be missed, it will be hot and hot and hot, and add some humidity, lots of humidity. So bring your hand fan. And it will be loud. Those bagpipes in an enclosed area... VERY VERY VERY loud!

They are NOT PO box numbers. I have great luck as follows:
Plebe Candidate name here, 2013
USMMA box (# here)
300 Steamboat Road
Kings Point, NY 11024-1699

You don't have to put the 300 Steamboat Road but I always do.

The Logging In Manual (whatever it's called) didn't include the year 2013 in the address once they have a box number. Do you think its required? I just sent mailing lables to my PC grandparents to use with:
Plebe Candidate His Name
USMMA box (# here)
300 Steamboat Road
Kings Point, NY 11024-1699

That is fine I have never used the year when addressing something to my Mid. :thumb:

Beat Retreat

How does one obtain seats for Beat Retreat? Is it "First come, first served" or are tickets sold in advance?

I'm in a wheelchair and can't climb into bleachers. Anyone know if there's a handicapped area, or who should be contacted to find out about that?

(I love, love, love marching bands and will probably cry during the whole performance. It's something I REALLY don't want to miss!)

You order tickets for the Beat Retreat when you order the rest of the tickets for Parents Weekend. I am not sure when they will post the order forms for tickets - watch the Parents Page for that.
I do believe that there is an area set aside for wheel chair access, but not sure exactly where it is.
