company assignments

Amen to Jasper, Wolf, and the other parents :thumb:

My son lived in the "horrible" barracks for three years and loved 2nd company. He almost got moved back to 5th Co as an officer (yes from the brand new, ac, spiffy rooms) to the ghetto....he was ecstatic at the thought of going back to the ghetto :wiggle: because of the history, atmosphere, etc.

Wait until sea year new parents.....another chapter in the varsity sport of complaining will unfold.:thumb:

parents weekend

Well said wolfe834.

Parents, you will have an opportunity to see your DS/DD living space on parents weekend. There is, I believe, 1 1/2 hours on one of the mornings to visit their living space.

Also keep in mind that they will be changing rooms/floors/roommates at the end of each tri. They can go from 3 roommates to 1.
The MMA knows what it is doing.

A wise person recently brought something to my attention...It is supposed to be broken. It is supposed to be hard. It is supposed to be frustrating. It is meant to be confusing. It is SUPPOSED TO SUCK. Then they asked me, why I thought America's military and industry leaders are so good at what they do? It took couple of seconds to get the dumb look off my face before the light came on and I understood. That's right, this wise person said with a sly grin. You guys are good at what you do because you are used to being flexible; you are used to calmly working though any situation and finding a workable solution; you except things don't always go the way you think they should. This wise person went on to say, some of you a great because you realize these hardships are needed to grow and develop. So I leave you with the wisdom of someone who has been paying attention and hope you can somehow see things from many different perspectives.

Our job is to be their cheerleader or coach and not their problem solver. As their cheerleader, we can support. As their coach, we can advise. As their parent, we can allow them to solve their own problems. They are young adults that are on their journey to manhood or womanhood.
I am just thankful "this" is their problem and not drugs, illegitimate children, alcohol, jail or any number of "other" problems.

noworries,

Very nicely done!

You hit that one out of the park!

Parents of the class of 2014, take a DEEP BREATH and try and chill.

After we figured out that every complaint wasn't really a major crisis, just a way of releasing tension, we joked that service academy cadets develop two hobbies: one is griping and the other is internet shopping - because they can't go anywhere.

Or maybe that was just our own kid!

Trust me - the internet shopping thing isn't/wasn't only your child. My wife was presently thrilled by the delivery from Flowers.Com from our DS on Mother's Day even though he was halfway around the world for sea year....:thumb:

I have found and read this quote before by Martha Washington, who was dealing with much uncertainty in areas much more elevated than the current challenges our DS's or DD's are facing.... "I am determined to be cheerful and happy in whatever situation I may find myself. For I have learned that the greater part of our misery or unhappiness is determined not by our circumstance but by our disposition.".... I hope through this process they will find the moment where this quote and state of mind becomes part of who they are. At this age it is difficult, but, I'm confident many will.

And my favorite quote from a non-mainstream sailing magazine:

"Attitude, the difference between an adventure and an ordeal".
