I was curious about the different sports offered for company athletics. I wrestled for four years, and somewhat liked it. However, I really want to give football a shot. Would trying out for football be a bad idea for someone who never played it in high school and is only about 5'6'' and 140lbs?

Company level football is offered in the fall and all cadets are welcome to play. My son loves football but is not big enough to play at the college level so he does company level football. He told me there are lots of cadets that have never played before, so you won't be the only one.

Here is a link to company level athletics for fall and spring: http://www.usma.edu/dpe/competitivesports/csintramurals.htm

Skill levels range from the All-State high school player to a participant who has never worn a set of pads…………………………..

A. d) The DPE Sport Educator OIC reserves the right to remove a player from a team roster who may give that team an extraordinary advantage over the average team.

It's not saying much for an All-State high school player if he does not give a team an extraordinary advantage.

Sprint Football

Sprint football is a varsity sport and would bear looking into. There are restrictions on the physical size of the players/teams, I believe.

There are varsity sprint players at both WP and USNA who never played high school football. I would think that they would value a wrestler highly.

Thanks, I think I might give it a shot, either that or rugby

Company level rugby is fun too. They play with modified rules to cut down on the possibility of injuries.
