Is the issued computer at USCGA a Mac or PC? My son will be attending one of the prep schools, probably GMC and can use a Mac or PC there. He doesn't really have any experience with Mac so if the USCGA issues a Mac he thinks he should get one for use at the prep school to get familiar with it before getting to USCGA. Thanks.

Last year 2015 was given the choice between choosing a PC or a Mac. Most people chose Macs though. Odds are he'll probably end up with one, so I recommend that one.

Mac's are not that hard to convert to. Most major programs are built now for Mac's as well as PC's. They tend to not get as bogged down with programming updates as PC's and therefore run better over the long haul. Security doesn't seem to be as big an issue either, we don't have virus programs on any of our Mac's and have not had a problem since we started converting 5 years ago. Not saying they can't get one, but just aren't attacked as frequently. DD is at USAFA and I can guarantee she would much prefer a Mac over a PC any day. In fact after Recognition last Spring she couldn't wait for us to ship out her Mac(now over 4 years old), it still runs faster than her issued PC. It is so old in fact that one of her classmates asked if it was a new version. She told them no it is just so old most people don't have these anymore. It still runs great though, she treats it like a trusted friend
