Hi all,
I have been coming here for almost a year now, and am the proud father of a USMA Class of 2016 appointee. He and I have found many great answers to our questions over that time.
One that I have not seen directly addressed is regarding the Cadet Computers in terms of how the software is dealt with.
Two things:
1.) Does my DS buy his own software (e.g., Micorosoft Word, Excel..) or does WP load it up for the new cadets?
2.) If there is a standard software policy, can anyone tell me what revision or version will 2016 be using for the usual major applications? The thought here is that if, for instance, WP is loading all laptops with MS Word 2010, or some other leading edge versions of software, and DS has only used Word 2003 or Word 2007, how critical is it for the cadet to get familiar wth it prior to arriving at WP and starting classes? Or is this the least of my DS's worries in the scheme of all that he is about to undertake?
Thanks for any info.
The Army is currently using Office 2007 (XML) as the enterprise standard. USMA may go beyond that, but I would assume not. And no, he will not buy his own software.
Even if they do use Word 2010......dude, it's WORD. It's designed for cubicle-drone morons. I'm sure your son will pick it up. The letters on the keyboard will still correspond to those on the screen, so that's 90% of Word right there.
