That's exactly the reason we weren't allowed to use web cameras at my old school. They actually did something to block them from being used on the Northwest network, and students would have to pay some sort of fine if they were caught using them.
 
i'm pretty sure that you cant use webcams. now, not to say that they're blocked, because i know of a few folks that've used em (taiwanese exchange cadet, friend with a gf back home, etc)

but it's fine to have on your monitor. you may use it for somethin else, like to make a video. lol who knows
 
So can you exchange videos?? lol. Like by email or whatever instead of constant video feed? I'm just really curious.
 
they can't block a webcam on the network if i'm using verizon's network :) or any other wireless carrier for that matter...
 
Slightly off topic, but what are the rules regarding cameras or camcorders?
 
Another somewhat offtopic question, but can we tether our computers to our cellphones? I would guess no, but I was just curious.
 
Re printers -- for Hornetguy or another cadet/alum. Is there a particular brand of printer (HP, Epson, etc) that you recommend as being most convenient, easiest to get supplies for, etc? (for example: does the Cadet store carry cartridges for one type of color printers, but not others). Thanks!

I'm pretty sure they laptop they give us won't allow tethering.... now if you bring your own like me... well thats where they never know you're on a different network... but dont use your other computer all the time.... common sense

Nothing really stands out. I personally like the HP vivera printers with single ink cartridges per color. Easier and cheaper generally.
 
Just got an email from the parents group. The computers for the class of 2013 is the
Fujitsu model T5010 tablet running Windows XP SP3.
 
very nice...i'll look forward to it after basic. one hurdle at a time though...
