I'm a junior, and I'm signed up to take my first ACT in early June. The applications for nominations and USNA opens in spring, and the deadline for noms is September. Will I be okay with waiting to get my ACT scores and not applying until late July/early August? Or should I just put in my applications without a test score? No one can seem to give me a straight answer, and I'm kinda freaking out!

Why wait? Did you apply for NASS or any of the sports camps at NAVY? Seriously, there is no percentage in waiting to apply, as a matter of fact before the end of your junior year you should have discussed your interest in USNA with your guidance counselor, you junior year grammar teacher and math teacher and made arrangements for being able to contact them during the summer if need be to get their letters of recommendation underway. Plan to submit your ACT scores and plan to take both the SAT and ACT at least one more time before the end of this calendar year - maybe twice if need be. You will not be penalized for low scores; the SA's take your BEST scores and discard the rest. Quite frankly I have noticed a growing trend for serious candidates to have most of their applications completed by the end of the summer. If you talk to any admissions counselor he/she will tell you it is to your advantage to be working ahead. Best wishes.

Isn't there an earlier ACT you can take? And I agree with earlier posts on taking both SAT and ACT multiple times.
