We received a letter yesterday stating that my son had received a conditional appointment to the CGA pending receipt of a medical waiver. My son is thrilled, but nervous that the waiver may not be be granted or that a decision won't be made by June 1. He's working diligently to gather doctor's and coaches letters to hopefully help with the waiver process. It will be heartbreaking if he doesn't get the waiver. His brother is already at the CGA in the Class of 2014, so I really hope everything works out for my other son and he is also granted admission to the Academy.

Congratulations! I sincerely hope your ds is granted the waiver. I understand Larry Mullen is the "go-to guy" for DODMERB difficulties or questions. You can get his info from threads on the DODMERB section. Good Luck!

Mr. Mullen helped me get my medical waiver for CGA on friday, I strongly advise you and your DS to go to him for some help! Also get in contact with Mr. Anderson, he runs the CGA DoDMERB work at the Academy.

Hope everything works out!

Congratulations! That is such great news and I hope your DS gets that waiver!:thumb:
Was the letter from USCGA, DoDMERB, or both? Did the "pending waiver submission/review" status on DoDMERB change? My DS is also DQ'd so he hopes to receive a conditional appointment also...

Waiver

My son received a letter and a phone call from the CGA telling him he had a conditional acceptance and that they were working on the waiver. He received a second letter from the CGA (on the same day) stating that the CGA was processing his waiver request and that it could take 12 weeks to get an answer. I hope that's not the case, because he wouldn't make the June 1 deadline.

My son did contact Mr. Mullen and received a response and he was the one who contacted the appropriate people at the CGA to start the waiver process. I am praying it all works out.

My DS had just about given up on the Academies because he had received a congressional nomination for West Point, but West Point closed his file when he received the DQ from DODMERB and didn't pursue a waiver. He'd rather go to the CGA anyway since his brother is there and loves it. DS is actively working with his doctors and coaches to try to obtain letters helping his cause. I hope it all works out in the end.
