I know of a conditional appointment but don't know what the "condition" is that has to be resolved.

Are these common and what are the usual "conditions"? Are they medical type?

Most important, is there a deadline to resolve it? Like March 1st? Or, april 15th?

Or, can it go right up until I-Day?

Any experienced BGO's seen these before?

Thanks.

Technically, all appointments are "conditional" until you take the oath.

But most appointments offered under a "conditional" status are LOAs (Letters Of Assurance) which are conditional on obtaining a nomination (most of them), and medical.

As DODMERB is swamped with candidates from all 5 academies plus ROTC applicants, sometimes admissions needs to make decisions without knowing the final medical status so they will issue a conditional appointment, conditional on the candidate obtaining qualified medical status, or a waiver for a disqualifying condition.

Most SAs state that all medical qualifications/waivers must be completed by June 1.

Medical issues can be resolved up until I-Day. However, this TYPICALLY occurs when there is a known date. For example, if someone must be clear 6 months post surgery and that "clear date" is June 15, USNA will generally give the candidate until that date to clear.

Thanks so much gentleman.

Can't say enough about how much you two and 1964 have helped us all.

I know many feel the same way.

God bless.
