The freshman class has finished their first year and will finally have cadets newer than them in just 40 or so days. You all are due a very hearty congratulations from all of us who are following your progress. (And of course congrats to all the other classes!) (Doesn't it seem like orientation and dinner at the Olive Garden was just a few weeks ago? .... well, at least to the parents.) Everyone have a safe summer!

Got a call from 2014 DS this AM with news his last final was completed. He was relieved and talkative. He let me know my Mom's Day package should be arriving today....I returned from work and THERE HE WAS!! ON THE FRONT DOORSTEP!!
I was shocked.... Completely unexpected and glorious.

Of course...he was on his way to somewhere...just in town (California!!) for a 96 hr pass!...hanging out for a few hours before he caught up 'with the boys'...but wanted to surprise me.
We celebrated his first-year-down-three-more-to-go moment

Suddenly it dawned on me he pulled off something quite remarkable. That USAFA is teaching these kids more then classwork, military knowledge and marching....He's evolving to be an incredible, thoughtful, grateful man.

Sometimes that roller-coaster pauses long enough to savor the highs!
What a view.....

@lisah: My first Christmas in the Air Force was December 2009. I was telling my family back home how I couldn't make it home for Christmas because of some stuff they had us doing. A week before Christmas day rolled around, my mom is freaking out asking for a shipping address for a Christmas care package so it can get there on time. I told her I'd get it to her by the end of the day. Well, I walked in while she was making the cookies for it. She was so shocked and she started crying. It was really fun. =D
