Congratulations air force !!!!

Hi Bobbigboy, it was actually shorter than reported. It was 25 yards (3 yards + 15 yard penalty + 7 yards set back). So as is has been stated numerous times, the distance should not have affected the kicker. That said, Navy had the chance to end the game defensively. It was a well played game, as exciting as it could get, I'm glad I got a chance to be there.
Plus 10 yds for the end zone. A 35 yd kick. Which is getting into the less than certain range. Especially when weather becomes a factor.

And Mongo, what was the distance of the OTHER kick he missed that game?

I am respecting flieger's desire to end the discussion but he made a 54 yd FG against Delaware, the longest in USNA history. One for the records.

NCAA 2011 FBS kicking stats:

http://espn.go.com/college-football.../sort/extraPointPct/qualified/false/count/121

He's 13/17 on extra points - that ranks 140 out of 145 kickers who have attempted P.A.T.s this year. I don't think the (appropriate) 15 yard penalty nor the weather was the problem.

Why not more focus on what, by definition, actually was an officiating error--the inadvertent whistle that worked against AF? Certainly debunks the "the refs waited until OT to inject themselves and Navy got scr@wed" argument.

The better team won.

You must have missed what I asked, so I'll ask again.... what was the distance of the OTHER kick that game he missed?

Bottom line

Air Force dominated the first half, Navy the second. When it came down to it, Proctor made a stupid decision and clearly taunted, costing 15 yds. What's controversial is whether taunting should get a flag, not whether or not he did it. Smart play is to hand the ball to the ref and run to the sidelines. Even despite that, AF blocked the kick. Whether it was in the kicker's mind with the extra yards, or that he had already missed a kick, or that there was pressure, the kicked failed. Then AF stepped up when they needed to and won the game. So no matter how much you want to discuss it, "what-if" it, or complain about it,

AIR FORCE WON! GO FALCONS!!!

35 yards out includes the 10 of the end zone.
Placed on the 18 (3 plus the 15 penalty) + 10 end zone + 7 behind the line of scrimmage = 35 versus 20 of the normal PAT.

I would just like to add.......

The 4 plane flyover was outstanding!!! Directly over the field - goalpost to goalpost! :thumb:

At the end of the day, it's just a hardly contested football game....there are more important issues to fight over than this. As much as I would have liked to seen Navy win, it was a great game. Congratulations USAFA.

The OT "unsportsmanlike conduct" penalty shouldn't and isn't the excuse to use. I would have hoped that Proctor could have just walked away and not even given the referee the opportunity to throw the flag.

I was shocked how many fans were leaving the stadium as both alma maters were played.

I look forward to another fireworks game next year in Colorado Springs.

Ah, the end of the game was good Coast Guard weather....

As soon as the drops started coming down, the grassy area started to clear out....
