As a Class of 2018 mom that still stalks this blog, I want to wish the Class of 2019 much success. Each one of you distinquished yourselves from your peers. You are now in a pool of high achievers who will be your brothers/sisters for life. You have what it takes to be successful at the Academy. Go forth and do great things. Moms and Dads, you should be proud of you sons and daughters. Stay strong on I-day and dont let the Bancroft door slam get to you (I wasnt really prepared for that).

First and foremost, let me again offer my congratulations on your nominations and appointments to the Service Academy and to ROTC programs, which you will be attending..

You young men and women set a goal for yourself and worked extremely hard to achieve that goal. You truly understood this was a very arduous process to accomplish the goal, at hand.

You definitely understand the commitment and courage this takes. You will face very hard challenges, this summer and over the next fours years, but I know your have perseverance to achieve this goal.

Your parents can be extremely proud of you for what you are about to undertake.

I am sure that you young men and woman could have attended any school in the country, but you chose to make a sacrifice and make a commitment to serve others and your country. That is truly something to be proud of and you need to know that others are proud of you for this.

God bless and God Speed to each and everyone of you.

I'm jumping on the Good Luck Bandwagon here. Best of Luck '19! You've probably heard this a million times, but your time will definitely fly by. I'm still finding it hard to believe that my I-day was 6 years ago.

Here in Annapolis, DS is trying to be nonchalant but can tell he's getting antsy. We started guessing who are the incoming plebes among the visitors and tourists. Easy to spot proud parents! Good luck class of 2019!

Hahaha! THS, they are easier to spot than you know! By the end of the ride you will be able to identify a Mid in and out of uniform and proud parents. Good luck to your DS. Make sure he is drinking water and gets a good meal tonight. Most kids won't eat tomorrow or just pick at breakfast.

OMG! Totally forgot that we did that last year! Favorite pastime in Annapolis during I-week--"spot the mid/mid parent!!"

Those clear plastic shopping bags from the MidStore are a dead giveaway, as are the out-of-state licensed vehicles unfamiliar with who has the right-of-way in traffic circles.

Good luck all to the incoming plebes. I look forward to seeing everyone at the annual USAA tote bag and water giveaway, as well as hanging out at the Shade Tent.

+1 Capt MJ, the plastic bags from the Midstore and the USNA moms and dads apparel were the dead giveaways. From a parent's POV I can only describe I Day with superlatives from start to finish, an amazing experience.

Guilty as charged sir! I'm not one who who wears sports logo apparel and such but I was one of those dads that bought and wore the swag and with as much pride as I've ever done so in my life. As a veteran from back in the dark ages, I thought I could easily keep all my emotions in check but the ceremony with all it's traditions, the playing of the anthem, the taking of the oath and the singing of the B&G punctuated with "Beat Army", right down to the slamming of those Bancroft doors followed by a very audible sigh from all those gathered had my chest thumping so hard I could barely keep it together as I looked out at ALL of these incredibly talented young men and women and how they were so much now a part of the fabric of America.

The entire day was beautifully organized; the Supe's parent briefing, the picnic where I got a chance to meet old friends I first encountered on this forum along with so many new ones from all over the country that will now become my new best friends for years to come. Hats off to USNA for this truelove memorial and outstanding day!

God bless them all and hope that the fulfillment of their dreams and where it now intersects with reality will be all that they expect it to be.

    Sydney C,

Having been witness to the tradition and utterly breath taking display of our current and future naval leaders, my only comment is, well said!
As I sat in a small section of bleachers for the Oath ceremony, I could barely contain my emotions. The feeling of pride was overwhelming to say the least. Fighting back tears while trying to record the ceremony was the second most difficult task of the day. I do not have military background in my family. Hovever, the last few years on this "roller coaster" has truly ignited a pride in our military that seemed to have been taken for granted. As I watched these outstanding young men and women swear to defend our Constitution, I could not stop the tear that trickeled down my face. I did so wearing my USNA class of 2019 shirt, and proud of it. I as well hoped that each Plebe will fulfill his or her dream. The day was exhausting but in a good way. I met forum friends that I hope will become like family over the coming years. Congratulations to those young people who see beyond 4 years of college, that answered a call to protect and serve. Cheers to each and ever one of these outstanding members of this great institution. God bless and watch over each of them.

Congrats to the new Plebes, they made it to their first Sunday. When you get a chance to talk to your kids after Plebe Summer, most of them will talk about breaking it up into making it to the next meal, to the next major event, to the next Sunday. Each Sunday offers a few short hours of sort of being left alone, tons of donuts from the Chaplains and an extra hour of sleep. It is sort of a marker for most Plebes that hey I made it one more week, I can do this. First phone calls should be coming soon!
