My DS got a letter from MOC on Christmas Eve telling him he has been nominated to USAFA, USNA and USMA (in that order). We were under the impression that he would be nominated to one. His order of choice was 1. USNA /2. USAFA /3. USMA - interesting that USAFA was listed first in MOC letter. Can anyone shed some light on this? He is 3Qed and has all three applications complete.

A little more about him - he is 3rd in class, 29 ACT (29 math - 31 eng), class president, football (capt), baseball (capt), Ohio Legion Eagle Scout of the Year, NHS, HOBY, NASS.

We are waiting on last ACT scores taken 12/21 - hoping for higher math.

I am new to the forum and would welcome any thoughts.

I assume (perhaps incorrectly) that you live in a relatively noncompetitive geographic region where, basically, there are fewer qualified applicants to SAs than there are nom slots. In such cases, MOCs would rather have a qualified applicant have his/her choice of SAs by giving him multiple noms than let a nom slot go unfilled.

Or, it could be that there were other qualified applicants to the other SAs but you DS was so head-and-shoulders above at least #10 for each that the MOC wanted to ensure your DS had his choice of SAs.

Consider yourselves very lucky . . . and that your DS received something well deserved.

I would add to 1985's post that the order listed by the MOC is not material unless principle noms are involved; ie, your DS is free to chose an offer extended by any of the academies.

Congratulations, looks like he got a trifecta.

Congrats that's OUTSTANDING!! I'm proud to see another HOBY alum receive such honors!

I don't know how competitive our district is. Fourteen were invited to be interviewed by our MOC. One senator interviewed 225 and the other interviewed 175. We have gotten a rejection letter from one senator (not sure if it is because the MOC communicated or not). We haven't heard from the other senator yet.

We hope to see BFE from Annapolis but would welcome offers from the other two.

Assuming you are from Ohio based on a reference to "Ohio Legion", it has been my casual observation that the senators do coordinate to varying degrees in the nominating process; eg, if both are from the same party, they tend to work very more closely than when they are from different parties. (This is not cast in stone, however.) I have not seen any situation since 1991 where there was evidence of a senator coordinating nominations with a congressman. As a matter of fact, in the northeast quadrant of Ohio at this time we have several candidates who have noms from a senator and a congressman. To my knowledge only one senator has notified his slate of nominees of their selection.
For what it's worth.

Results for 12/21 ACT are in. He got a 33 composite with a 32 in math and 33 in English! This eases our minds a little more, still nervous though. So happy he took it a fifth and final time - thankfully the academies extended their deadline.
