This is a long shot, but does anyone know the competition level for Congressman John Carter's District (TX-31)? This district includes Central Texas, Fort Hood, but excludes downtown Austin. Anything helps, may it be the number if applicants, etc. Thanks!

    Who Cares, really?

Does it really matter who or how many will be taking interviews in your district? Do you know any of the others, I mean do you? The only person who matters is you. Put your sells man hat on and make them feel when you leave, "Holy Smokes, He is going to be our future general!" The only person you have to compete against is yourself. The board wants to know you.

What is more interesting? Someone who is communicating to you passing information or someone you tells you a story? Tell them about yourself in a story form and you will have them eating out of your hands. You'll retain their interest and it will make yourself more interesting.

Sit down and write things about yourself and practice it. Practice in front of a mirror dressed in your suit. When you feel more comfortable ask someone to listen and ask for their opinion. Go down to the local fire department and ask them for a mock interview.

Interviewing is a skill that can be strengthened. Don't worry about the others its not fair for you.

Your congressperson should have a point of contact or someone who is managing the interviews, they may let you know. Also your FFR will have online access to those who are completing their applications in a timely matter and can give you an idea.

My interview went great! I answered all of the questions that they had for me and I felt confident leaving the room with the way I answered them.
