I guess my son did not want it as bad as your son. If I could make it easier on him by helping out in some way, I would.
Don't turn this around to mean something that is not implied or intended. I simply stated certain facts. In the 50+ years of air force academy applications, and the quality and attributes of those they eventually give appointments to, it is very unlikely that your, my, or anyone else's kid has some sort of unique school; schedule; curriculum; etc... that they have to deal with. And there is also nothing wrong with "helping" your kids in the college application process. Whether it's the academy, Harvard, of the Universityofwhereverthehell.
But there are some things that people need to do for themselves. We've all seen when parents speak for their kids when they shouldn't. When a student is having a problem in a certain class, and instead of them talking to the teacher, the parent immediately gets involved talking to the teacher. Taking the kid to get their driver's license or some similar service, and when the kid is asked questions by the person providing the service, the parent jumps in and answers for them. Same thing with calling the ALO, MOC, admissions counselor, etc... They believe they are helping, but that line gets crossed more often than they will admit. And yes, I am guilty of doing such things too. But I'm also willing to recognize or be told when to back off.
My point is/was/and will continue to be; the applicant needs to take the lead in the process. Especially in the direct communications with ALO's, MOC's, and Admissions. There may be times when a parent needs to get more involved, but it shouldn't be the norm.
Now; in this particular discussion, no one needs to be contacting admissions and the counselor. There is a process in place for notification of appointment. You'll find out soon enough. There's nothing so special about any particular candidate's circumstances that require they know right this second if they received an appointment or not. There's still plenty of time to put down payments and make plans for Plan B-Z educational options.
