Continued Excellence...

Precisely. There are literally thousands of high school seniors who, after receiving a denial to the Academy, realized what they did wrong and would be willing to work 20+ hour days to be in your shoes. Work hard and have a positive attitude and you'll succeed at the Academy. I don't want to sound like a tool, but among the things you'll hear during inprocessing is that by stepping off this bus you have accepted the challenge and taken the first step that everyone in the Long Blue Line has taken, and do not disappoint those who have come before you.

great...now people are judging me because of what i said in a forum post. ITS HIGH SCHOOL and I'm 2 weeks away from graduating. I worked my tail off the other 3 years to get myself to the position I'm in now. Took sacrifices that many of my friends never had to with schoolwork, clubs, and other things alike and focused of my schoolwork and studying so that I could receive an appointment. I KNOW that that cannot be my attitude at the academy, and it WILL not be by attitude at the academy, but dont just automatically ask me if I'm "serious right now" when partially, I'm kidding. Sorry I'd like to do other things before I leave to USAFA than focus 150% on schoolwork that doesnt matter when I can pull Bs no problem. Your right that even as a firstie you can screw up your career for slacking off your last year....but I'm not a firstie at the academy i'm a senior in high school. No offense intended I would just like to clear that up. Thanks for the advice, but I already have an idea of what I need to do to be successful at USAFA altough my earlier post did not reflect that.

AHAHAHA! You have NO idea. There's another poster on this thread who is in your shoes who made the mistake of assuming this. That mistake was remedied.

I wish you good luck, from one who is nearly done with 4 years of USAFA. Just remember, you practice how you play. Entering a new place doesn't change how you'll behave. Other people will see to that though.

Hmmm, I think I remember that guy.

I don't think there is such a thing as being too humble where we are going. It will be tough for everyone, maybe for someone the physical part will be easier, someone else may have it easier in academics, but everyone will fall somewhere.

Nothing we are doing or have done compares to where we will be in 6 short weeks. It is a new level on a new playing field for all of us.

Keep up the hard work, and be ready to work harder (after a short summer break of course).

Later,

Brian

great...now people are judging me because of what i said in a forum post.

There is nothing to be upset about. You yourself just said this is a "Forum Post". That means that no one here actually knows you. Which means, that nothing anyone here says should affect you personally. There are some posters here who have been part of this "Forum Family" for a number of years. I could see them possibly being upset over something another "Forum Family" member said. But as long as you know what you mean by what you said, and you're ready for whatever happens, then you should be fine. And nothing said here should bother you. Some of us know each other personally. We've met and chatted outside of this forum. But you shouldn't let it bother you.

But you and ALL others preparing to go to the academy should HEED Hornet's wisdom. You, no one, has ANY idea what you need to do to be successful at the academy. There's those that have gone through CAP who think they are ready and know what to expect. There are those who have been JrROTC who think they are ready and know what to expect. There are those who were in scouting who think they are ready and know what to expect. There are those who are Brats and DO know what to expect, but they think they are ready too. Well guess what; NONE of these people are ready. And even if they know what to expect, they aren't ready for it either. The minute you cross the bridge, pick up your back pack or luggage, and get on the bus, your entire perspective of life WILL CHANGE. And for the next 48 hours, time will no longer exist. And THAT's the EASY PART of the academy. Trust Hornet, you don't know what it takes to be successful at the academy. Not one student does. Because to be successful is an individual thing. And that individual success is going to be totally based on your interaction with other people. In other words, you could be the BEST athlete, the BEST in academics, and the BEST in military bearing.... And you could STILL NOT SUCCEED. Trust hornet in his wisdom.

And again, this is a forum. With the exception of a minority of us, most everyone here is a stranger in real life. Don't let anything anyone says here bother you. Between the mods and the posters self moderating, we don't allow posts to get personal. If you think something you are reading is personal against you, there's a 99.9999% chance it isn't. Blow it off. It's just one person trying to be helpful and insightful to give other a different perspective that they possibly didn't see it as. They are trying to be helpful. And most times when we post, we are also posting for the person lurking or who might search the threads months from now, so that they may learn from the information provided, and maybe not have to ask the same question again that someone else already asked in a previous post.

So best of luck to you futureafacadet. I hope you have a great end to your high school years. I hope you get to accomplish those things you wanted to do. That is important. I hope you find the balance so that everything works out the way you want it to. The same for every other appointee preparing to graduate high school and getting ready for "I" day. Best of luck to each and every one of you. Mike....

I am a college student and have just sent in my final transcript. I ended up with a C in my Calc II class this semester. All my other grades are A's and B's. Do I need to worry about my Calc II grade getting my appointment taken away?

You have absolutely NOTHING to worry about. 1st: Even if you were a high school student still, getting a "C" on your final semester isn't going to hurt anything. Get an "F", and things change. Not an automatic going to lose, just things change. But 2nd: You are a college student. Your classes are SUPPOSE to be harder than high school. Don't worry. You're fine. Have fun, and good luck. Mike....
