I know that there are threads on the Nom process and questions pertaining to the Presidential Noms. My DS rec his offer of appointment, obviously based on his Presidential, as the Congressional Process is barely underway. DS sent admissions an email asking if his Congressman had been informed of his appointment (we thought that we might here from him). Admissions sent him back an email telling him not to pull his packages and continue to seek noms. Admissions would inform Senators/Congressman once he appears on their list. Why would he compete for a nom with the possibility of taking it away from someone else when he is sitting on an appointment, not a LOA. I understand the movement of noms, but with an appointment already in hand, why would he be asked to do this? Is he not suppose to tell them that he already has an appointment? If he tells them, why would they put him on the list? I suspect that this will sit poorly with DS, because his first thought will be "will I take a nom away from someone else"? Seriously confused here...

My guess would be so that they could use your DS's Presidential nom for someone else if need be. There may be someone down the road they really want, but has nothing else but a Presidential nom. Getting a nom from a MOC may actually help someone else.

If the admission office told him to continue to seek other nominations, how is there any confusion? I think they should have a handle on what he should do.

Same situation here. USMA said "up to you" on proceeding with MOC Noms. USNA said please proceed. We called MOCs to ensure they were aware. One Senator said "no go" but the other Senator and Congressman said to proceed with Nom packages.

I agree with Stealth. First, it will help your DS professionally....going through the interviews (presuming there are interviews). Second, your DS should be honest...if they ask if he has an appointment....say yes and if they ask why he is still sitting in front of them...it is okay to say that is what USNA Admissions recommended. Either way, your DS already has an appointment...so if they don't give your DS the nom, who cares...but it isn't all a waste (point one). Also agree with USNA19Dad...it could help someone in the longer run.

I guess it is just his concern about someone possibly loosing a nom, but I understand on the flip side it could result in someone getting an appointment. It is a ethical decision. He is asking for more clarification from admissions. He is set on doing the right thing. It is totally his decision, and one he and he alone will have to deal with. Thanks for everyones input.

I agree with above comments... continue pursuing the nom. I doubt he will take a nomination from anyone. If I were the congressman I would add him to the bottom of a ranked slate or nominate a principal with your son on the slate. The Academy can move things around as works best for them. Further the congressman or Senator gets to say they got 2 people from their district into the Academy that year. Win-win-win.
